]]>Moisture is public enemy #1 when it comes to keeping salad crisp. Make sure to pat dry all ingredients before adding them to your salad. One way to ensure that your leaves remain lively is by placing paper towels between each leaf when storing them in the fridge.
Have you ever given much thought to where you are placing your salad in the fridge? Well, you should. Avoid the bottom section to prevent anything from dripping down and causing contamination. You also want to avoid the back of the fridge as it’s especially cold there.
The key to a great salad is a mixture of textures — you want to include crispy, creamy, and crunchy. And you definitely don’t want them to get soggy! Prevent the dreaded mushiness by keeping things like cheese, seeds, croutons, and nuts aside until you’re ready to serve.

]]>One reason why adding color into our salad is helpful is because we’re suckers for visuals. We as humans are naturally drawn to bright, vivid colors, in whatever shape or form they come. This is true for salads too, which is why you should be adding veggies such as green, red, and orange pepper into it, along with corn, black olives, and every other colorful veggie you can think of.
When things have different colors, they don’t just look different. They taste different too. Thus, if you add more color into your salad, it’s pretty much inevitable that your salad is going to taste versatile and dynamic. You might find that it’s the most delicious salad you’ve ever tasted!

]]>Food blogger My Nguyen recently uploaded a video on TikTok in which she demonstrated why everyone should prepare their salads in jars even if they are not going anywhere.
The clip shows her holding a jar in which she stacked Mediterranean Salad ingredients on top of each other in a big jar. Starting from the bottom up, she placed tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers, chickpeas, olives, feta cheese, and lettuce. Nguyen then flipped the jar and spilled the veggies on a plate.
By making salad in a jar, Nguyen not only got some great photos of her meal, but this prepping technique also allowed her to have better control over how different ingredients come together in a salad. As an added bonus, the TikToker also shared a simple recipe for a Balsamic Vinaigrette salad dressing.
Of course, the “salad in a jar” stuff didn’t sit well with everyone, with some users arguing that it was a waste of time. However, the video has since gone viral and received more than 10 million. Check it out below and see if it’s worth trying out.

]]>In short, the answer is yes. There is something to be said about having multiple colors in your salad and not just for presentation. Different colors portray different variations of nature, and therefore a multi-colored salad will give you a handful of healthy properties. If you only had leafy greens in your salad, it might seem a bit bland, right?
That being said, it’s definitely not essential to have a million different colors in your salad. You’ll still get a very healthy salad if you just focus on greens. But then again, if you are concerned with the way it looks, and you want it to have that “wow factor”, then adding a bunch of different colors will certainly achieve that.

]]>Quinoa comes in several different colors, and red and white happen to be the most used. Red quinoa is a popular option for salads due to its rich, nutty taste, but it tends to be pretty chevvy so you can also opt for white quinoa, which is milder and softer.
You’ll have to cook quinoa for about 15 minutes and let it cool for another 30 before using it in your salad. If you don’t feel like waiting this long every time you’re making quinoa salad, you can prep a larger amount ahead of time and store it in your fridge for a few days.
You shouldn’t go overboard with the dressings you use with quinoa due to its delicate texture. It’s best to pair some olive oil with your favorite type of vinegar, and apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, or red wine vinegar happen to be some of the most popular choices.

]]>Carbs are one of the best sources of energy and they’re good for heart and brain health. For that reason, don’t avoid adding rice, quinoa, potatoes and other foods that are rich in carbs to your salads.
Obviously, protein-rich foods are the most important part of every meal because they’ll give you energy and keep you full longer. Meat and eggs are the most popular sources of protein, but if you’re following a plant-based diet you can add lentils, tofu, beans, and more.
Leafy greens such as spinach, broccoli and kale should be the base of every nutritious salad, because they will provide you with enough nutrients, which is particularly important for people who are eating a plant-based diet.
Last but not least, add more flavor and texture to your salads by choosing the perfect toppings. Nuts will provide you with extra protein and they give a salad a crunchy texture. On the other hand, fruits like lemon, lime or pomegranate seeds will boost your vitamin intake.

]]>Avocados are often hailed as healthy fat, but that doesn’t change the fact that their fat and calorie content is pretty high. The main purpose of eating a salad is to have a healthy meal, so try to stick to a quarter or half of an avocado per serving so you don’t transform it into a calorie bomb.
Avocados have a tendency to brown pretty quickly, and your salad won’t look so great after this happens. That’s why you should always add them last to your salad after the rest of the ingredients are already inside the bowl.
You can slice your avocados anyway you want when adding them to salads, but there are a few slicing tricks you can use to make your salads better. Chunkier salads will benefit from chopped or diced avocados, while avocado slices work better with leafy green salads.

]]>If you’re trying to cut out on carbs, croutons aren’t the best idea, and the fact that they have high sodium levels also doesn’t help their case.
Ranch, blue cheese, and similar creamy dressings won’t do your health any favors, and not only because they’re high in calories. These dressings are also loaded with fat, and have very little nutritional value.
There’s nothing bad about having a bit of cheese in your salad, as long as you don’t go overboard and pick the right kind.
Many salads you ordered will be topped by candied nuts, but eating them isn’t exactly the healthiest choice since they often contain a lot of sugar, fat, sodium, artificial colors, and flavors.

]]>This is just great for any kind of simple salad, each seed brings its own specific flavor, but they all introduce a lovely crunchy texture. Try sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, or chia seeds. If you want to make a statement, go for nigella seeds, which are less common but make a great addition to your salad.
Using tofu is actually a fantastic way to introduce any sort of flavor you want into your salad without letting it take over. Tofu absorbs flavors very quickly and stays light. Simply squeeze the tofu from some of its liquid, cube it, and marinade in your choice of flavors (for example mix lemon, paprika, and salt). After 15 minutes give it a quick grill for crunchy edges and throw it into the salad.
Upgrading can happen by adding one extra vegetable with a different color, taste, or texture. A few small radishes would do the job, a cubed avocado, or even steamed asparagus spears.
