Sliced red onion is amazing with so many meals. It’s a great topping for sandwiches, burgers, and salads because it brings such a good flavor and crunch. It tastes great when the slices are thin, but there’s nothing worse than thick, overpowering onion slices to ruin a perfectly good meal. Luckily, there’s a new viral hack to slice your red onions that saves you time and produces the perfectly thin slices! All you need is a fork, a peeler, and a red onion.

Step 1

First, you’re going to cut the ends of the onion off with a knife. Be sure to peel the first layer of skin off of the onion.

Step 2

Insert your fork directly into the core of the onion from one of the ends you previously cut off. This is mostly just to keep the onion steady while you complete the next step.

Step 3

Here comes the fun part. Go crazy with the peeler on the other end. Okay, not crazy. Basically, you’re going to run your peeler back and forth over the opposite end of the onion, as you hold it in place with the fork. As you run the peeler over the end, thin slices or shavings should appear quickly and effortlessly!

Step 4

Enjoy your thinly sliced red onion. Top your sandwiches and salads as you like!

Removing corn from the cob is both time-consuming and messy. You are trying to get all of those stubborn kernels while watching them fly around your kitchen each time you make a sudden movement. It’s something that prompts most people to just leave it all and buy canned corn instead. But this might not be the best approach.

There is one simple hack that will help you remove corn from the cob in no time. There is some mess still included, but you’ll finish a batch in a matter of minutes.

Simple Hack for Removing Corn From the Cob

As with all good cooking hacks these days, the one for removing corn from the cob quickly comes from TikTok. It is showcased in a video posted by @denisemellott300, which received 14 million views and 1.1 million likes in a short period of time.

The clip shows the user’s son removing corn kernels at an amazing speed by using an angel food tube cake pan turned upside down. He is simply pushing the corn through the tube, with the pan collecting all the kernels and the cob just sliding straight into the sink.

Note that you’ll end up with a wet shirt if you don’t use an apron while doing this, but it is surely worth the time you will save. Check out the demonstration below.

When we normally think of graters, we think of them in the context of grating cheese. After making a delicious pasta dish, we might grab a hunk of parmesan and then proceed to grate it over our tasty-looking fettuccini, and for good reason! Graters are excellent for using on cheese, but here’s another practical use for it that doesn’t get talked about enough.

Sautéing is Fun!

There are countless different reasons you might want something to be sautéed. But whatever reason you’re going for, chances are you’ve been advised to chop up your veggies before popping them onto the frying pan. However, another great way to “dice” up your vegetables before sautéing them is to run them through a grater!

It’s Juicy

One reason this can be better than chopping is that it draws the juices more from the vegetables, making for a tastier dish. Try it out and see for yourself!

It’s Quicker

Another benefit is that it’s quicker. If you’re in a rush to make dinner and you want something sautéed, run your veggies through a grater and hold it above the frying pan. You’ll waste no time at all cutting up your veggies, and it’ll taste amazing as well!

We could all do with a few new tips every now and again. It doesn’t matter how experienced you think you are at cooking, because it never hurts to learn more, especially when you’re having fun doing it! If your cooking experience has become stale, here are a few simple tricks that can make cooking easy again.

Microwave Garlic Cloves

There are few things as frustrating as trying to peel garlic and having it keep sticking to your hands. An easy way to overcome this is to stick the garlic cloves in the microwave for 30 seconds on high heat. This makes the skin just simply fall off in large strips. Easy!

Chop Vegetables On Salt

If you’re tired of bits of vegetables flying everywhere while you’re chopping them, don’t worry! Simply sprinkle some salt on the chopping board before you start chopping. This makes them stick to the board and become much better behaved.

Take Your Eggs Off Early

The number one rule for cooking perfect eggs is to cook on medium heat, and then stop cooking just before you think they’re ready. The eggs will continue cooking after you’ve taken them off the heat. This way, you’ll have perfectly cooked eggs every time.

Leave Meat To Stand

The best meat should be left to stand for at least five minutes after cooking, because this improves the flavor and the texture as well.

Don’t Overclean

It might seem odd to not overclean your pans. But actually, a pan is best if it isn’t over-scrubbed with washing liquid. This way, it retains the flavor and makes food taste better.

When it comes to keeping our food fresh, we certainly have our on-days and off-days. However, one certain way to keep our food ready for eating is by knowing where to store them. With vegetables, for instance, it’s not necessarily smart to just toss them all in the same bowl together. If you want a more detailed guide on how to store certain vegetables, read on!

Carrots

Carrots should be stored in a plastic or mesh bag, and then placed in the vegetable drawer in your fridge. If there’s no room in the fridge, find a dark, dry area that has a room-temperature circulation.

Cucumbers

These long green vegetables should also be stored in a dry and dark room-temperature area. Another option is to put them in the refrigerator, but they must be placed on a high shelf where it’s warmer.

Garlic and Onions

Place your garlic and onions in a paper or mesh bag, and then store them in a dry area with room-temperature circulation, although it’s alright if the air’s a bit cooler.

Lettuce

Lettuce should be washed and spun in a salad spinner, and then kept in the fridge while still in the spinner, with the lid on.

We’re not crying—you’re crying! We all know the feeling that arises every time we gather the chopping board and start dicing up onions. Like clockwork, we start tearing up like there’s no tomorrow, and it can be quite uncomfortable. But there are actually some interesting (and strange) ways you can avoid it. Here are some tips.

Wear Goggles

When in doubt, do the thing that seems most logical. You might look a bit funky to your family members or roommates, but at least you’ll be able to brag that you didn’t cry!

Cut Them Under Cold Water

If you cut your onions under a running stream of cold water, it’ll lower the temperature of this pesky vegetable. When this happens, it will reduce the lachrymatory effect of the onion, which is the chemical that makes us cry in the first place.

Cut Near a Fan

Another way to keep the lachrymatory effect of the onion to a minimum is by keeping a running fan nearby. This too will lower the onion’s temperature, and reduce your tears in the process.

Hold Some Water in Your Mouth

This is by the strangest tip of them all, but it actually works—sometimes. Hold a mouthful of water and close your mouth while chopping your onions, and you’ll oddly feel more refreshed and not have to cry.

Home cooking is not always easy. It can be time consuming, difficult, and we don’t always have the tools we need to make really good quality food. If you feel you sometimes struggle in the kitchen and aren’t getting the results you want, why not consider the help of a food processor?

Here are 5 ways food processors could help your cooking.

Save Time

Food processors are great at saving you time in the kitchen. Rather than spending a long time cutting vegetables, dicing meat, slicing potatoes or liquidizing soups of the hob, food processors can do all of this in seconds.

Good Quality

Food processors can also guarantee good quality results. They can slice or dice vegetables cleaner and more consistently than most people that are not high level chefs can by hand.

Versatile

Good quality food processors can also perform many different tasks to be of optimum use to you in the kitchen. They can chop, slice, dice, puree, knead dough, mix salads or sauces and prepare meat products.

Consistent Results

They can consistently cut ingredients to the same size or shape. Not only does this make your food look more presentable and pleasing, but it can help ensure that food is cooked evenly.

Safe

Food processors can help keep you safe. They prepare ingredients for you so you don’t need to use a knife.

Home organization tips are normally written from experience, and so many times the ideas and instructions are just perfect for those who live the same way the writer does but end up quite frustrating for others. So, our tips for the kitchen are a little different—we gathered three little rules to help you figure out your own way to keep your kitchen tidy.

The “No Rules” Rule

Probably our favorite rule, and certainly the most important one. Approach organizing your kitchen with an open mind; as long as you keep it healthy and safe, make your culinary domain fit your style and convenience. Tasty food comes out of happy kitchens.

Follow the Usage

When thinking about how to organize the kitchen, make sure to work with the people who use it the most. Perhaps spend a week or two observing what is being created in the kitchen most commonly. For example, if tea or coffee are brewed several times a day, keep the cups, kettle, teaspoons, and teabags or coffee jar together, not too far from the tap.

Stay Agile

Don’t insist on sticking to a certain organization simply out of habit. If something doesn’t work, rethink and move things around until you get it right.
