Sliced red onion is amazing with so many meals. It’s a great topping for sandwiches, burgers, and salads because it brings such a good flavor and crunch. It tastes great when the slices are thin, but there’s nothing worse than thick, overpowering onion slices to ruin a perfectly good meal. Luckily, there’s a new viral hack to slice your red onions that saves you time and produces the perfectly thin slices! All you need is a fork, a peeler, and a red onion.

Step 1

First, you’re going to cut the ends of the onion off with a knife. Be sure to peel the first layer of skin off of the onion.

Step 2

Insert your fork directly into the core of the onion from one of the ends you previously cut off. This is mostly just to keep the onion steady while you complete the next step.

Step 3

Here comes the fun part. Go crazy with the peeler on the other end. Okay, not crazy. Basically, you’re going to run your peeler back and forth over the opposite end of the onion, as you hold it in place with the fork. As you run the peeler over the end, thin slices or shavings should appear quickly and effortlessly!

Step 4

Enjoy your thinly sliced red onion. Top your sandwiches and salads as you like!
