From not reading the recipe carefully to not preheating your pan—we’ve all developed some frivolous kitchen habits that could eventually result in all kinds of cooking disasters. Here are some bad kitchen habits you should stop right now.

Not Prepping the Ingredients

Take some time to measure, cut and peel all the ingredients before you actually start cooking. This is a great way to avoid messing up or burning the dish, because you’ll have all the ingredients on hand, and you’ll be able to cook more efficiently.

Not Replacing Your Sponges Often

Sponges are a breeding ground for germs and bacteria, which is why using the same sponge for too long can be very harmful. Depending on how often we use the sponge, it should be switched out at least every two to three weeks.

Not Adding Salt When Cooking Pasta

Cooking pasta seems pretty straightforward, but did you know that salt should be added to water before pasta, not after? Ideally, you should add salt when the water comes to a boil, that way your dish will have the perfect flavor.
