Beans and legumes are the perfect way for vegans to get their fair share of daily protein. However, meat-eaters and vegetarians alike can benefit from the rich nutrition of these healthy foods.

Garbanzo Beans

Also known as chickpeas, these beans are an excellent source of protein and can be made into delicious Middle Eastern dishes such as hummus. They can also be incorporated into meat substitute dishes such as veggie burgers.

Navy Beans

These awesome beans got their name because they were a major part of a sailor’s diet in the US Navy. They contain lots of folates, a special B Vitamin that’s responsible for helping to produce red and white blood cells in the body.

Lima Beans

These fiber-filled beans have a creamy, buttery, texture, which gave them the nickname “butter beans.” They are considered the perfect pre-work out meal due to their high complex carb content.

Great Northern Beans

Just one cup of these beans supplies 12 grams of fiber, which is half of the recommended daily value. Great northern beans are also very high in magnesium—an important mineral that helps the body perform crucial tasks.

In 1970, the average American was eating about 8 pounds of cheese per year. Since then, that number has increased drastically. Today, Americans eat about 40 pounds a year! As this number went up, so did cheese prices. One specific cheese stands out among the rest when it comes to pricy dairy.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BxvJ6P-AVGI/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Pule is the most expensive cheese in the world, and with good reason.

It can go for as much as $1700 per pound and remains one of the world’s most expensive foods alongside truffles and caviar. This fancy cheese is made from the milk of a Balkan donkey, rather than your typical cow or goat. Only one man in the entire world produces this valuable cheese, a Serbian dairyman named Slobodan Simic.

Costs of labor are a huge factor in producing pule. The female donkeys produce 1-2 liters of milk a day and about twenty-five liters of milk are required to make just one kilogram of cheese!

Despite pule’s hefty price tag, it can be pretty difficult to track it down. It’s very difficult to purchase, but you may get lucky and try a taste of it if you take a visit to the Serbian dairy farm.

Part of consuming a healthy diet is making sure you take in all your fruits and vegetables. Many people don’t like vegetables and as a result, they don’t eat the recommended dose. Salads are a great way to consume your greens and we have some great tips on how to jazz up your salads!

Rub the Bowl With Garlic

Fresh garlic is a great salad dressing ingredient, but it can be overpowering. Try this simple trick: cut a garlic clove in half and rub it across the inside of your salad bowl. This creates a subtle garlic flavor without the pungency.

Make Your Own Dressing

Store-bought salad dressings are convenient, but they’re often filled with unnecessary sugars and ingredients. Homemade vinaigrettes are simple and delicious and all you have to do is mix together pantry ingredients that are probably already in your kitchen – olive oil, vinegar, honey, and mustard work well.

Make it Fruity

Chopped fresh fruit adds sweet complexity to a simple salad. Citrus and mango go great with Asian-influenced ingredients, while berries deliciously complement spinach salads.

Add Grains

Salads often have a bad reputation of not being satisfying or filling enough. A few spoonfuls of grains can quickly bulk up your salad and leave you full for hours. It’s the best way to use up leftover rice, quinoa, couscous, or bulgur.

Throw in Some Crunch

Croutons are overrated! Fun, healthy toppings can make all the difference. Trying topping your next salad with toasted and salted nuts, crispy seeds, or even granola.

Have you ever heard of jackfruit? This unique, sustainable treat has become increasingly common around the world. It works as a tasty plant-based meat alternative due to its “meat-like” texture.

What is it?

Jackfruit is the largest tree-borne fruit in the world. They have a green, bumpy exterior and the inside contains many edible yellow bulbs and brown seeds.

Ripe jackfruits have a very neutral flavor on their own, allowing them to easily soak up both sweet or savory flavors and ingredients. Herbs and spices are often added to make vegetarian dishes resembling pulled pork or shredded chicken.

Is it healthy?

Jackfruits are rich in nutrients and low in calories. They’re a great source of fiber, potassium, and antioxidants. They also have several blood sugar management properties. A study found that those who consumed jackfruit had significantly improved blood sugar levels.

How Do You Eat It?

Even though jackfruit works as a great replacement for meat products, it has a lower protein and fat content. Therefore, it’s best prepared with other foods that can provide those nutrients, such as avocado or beans. Include jackfruit in your next meatless dish by using it in tacos, BBQ sandwiches, or curry.

Europe was the first to integrate dessert into mealtimes, making it the perfect destination to explore while trying out the world’s tastiest treats!

Churros: Spain

This deep-fried dough sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and often dipped in chocolate sauce is an authentic Spanish treat. It’s commonly served for breakfast with a warm cup of coffee.

Eclair: France

You will almost always find a glistening row of these beautiful pastries at French bakeries. The traditional chocolate eclair uses a simple pasty dough filled with vanilla cream and topped with a rich chocolate glaze.

Trdelnik: Czech Republic

Trdelnik is a soft dough wrapped around a stick and grilled right in front of you in Prague street stands. It’s topped with sugar and walnuts and served with ice cream, chocolate, or fruit.

Banoffee Pie: England

This quintessential British dessert is a must-have on your next trip to London. It deliciously combines a flaky, buttery crust with silky layers of toffee, bananas, and cream.

Gelato: Italy

Though there are many famous Italian desserts, there is one custardy treat that never fails to please. Gelato is made with less cream and more milk than ice cream, allowing a smoother, silkier consistency.
