There’s nothing like a sweet, juicy tomato and when it comes to tomatoes, the smaller ones are the way to go. But with all of the small tomato varieties, what are the differences and can you use them interchangeably? Here are the differences between cherry, pear, and currant tomatoes.

Cherry Tomatoes

There are tons of varieties of cherry tomatoes that range in color from red and yellow to green and black and size. Cherry tomatoes are round and crisp and they can be sweet or acidic. Cherry tomatoes break down more when cooked, which results in a nice flavor in pasta and on skewers.

Pear Tomatoes

Pear tomatoes are really similar to cherry tomatoes, but they’re pear-shaped. They’re usually yellow, but they can come in reds or oranges. They’re more acidic and not as sweet as cherry tomatoes because they are picked earlier in the field.

Currant Tomatoes

These tomatoes are smaller than cherry and pear tomatoes, usually the size of a fingernail. They pack an intense flavor and they’re best in pasta, salads, or tomato jams. When cooking with currant tomatoes, try not to use too much heat, and instead use them as a topping on dishes.

There are quite a few fruits and veggies that people like to grow in the garden, and tomatoes are without a doubt one of them. The reason for this is clear, no fresh salad is complete without them.

The tomato seeds can be sown towards the end of February to allow it time to incubate towards spring.

It’s recommended to grow tomatoes from tomato seeds that you bought from the supermarket. Choose tomato seeds that were particularly tasty and soak the tomato liquid into the soil.

A tomato develops well when it receives a rich, well-drained substrate.

Tomatoes love the sun, but they still, need a good amount of water that will allow them to thrive. It’s best to water them when the soil dries.

The tomato is the perfect vegetable to grow. It’s suitable for everyone, easy to grow, grows at a fast pace, especially fun for children who see and taste the final product of their work in a salad or on a plant. Tomatoes are always needed and there is never too much of it!

Did you know that there are foods that will help you in your fight against dehydration? It’s often hard to drink enough water in a typical day, meaning that our diets also can work in the fight to keep our bodies sufficiently hydrated.

If you find yourself struggling to stay hydrated, why not try snacking on these vegetables to help you achieve your goal?

Cucumber

Cucumbers are over 95% water, meaning that they can seriously help you to get enough water in your body. One of our favorite ways to eat cucumbers is by slicing them and dipping them into hummus.

Tomato

Looking for a salad ingredient that will help you to keep enough water in your system? Try cutting up a generous portion of tomatoes and dumping them on top. These red veggies are over 90% water, making them a perfect option.

Celery

Celery has the highest concentrations of water of any vegetable, clocking in about 96%. A great way to incorporate celery in your diet is to snack on this sometimes-bland vegetable with peanut butter, a great way to make it more flavorful.

Hummus is one of the most popular healthy snacks on the planet right now. This chickpea-based dip is perfect for eating with sliced vegetables, and the possibilities are truly endless for the flavor combinations that you can come up with.

Here are some vegetables that are absolutely fantastic for dipping into hummus.

Cucumber

Cucumber is probably my favorite vegetable for slicing and dipping into hummus. We recommend keeping the skin on, giving the cucumber a vitamin boost, and allowing its relatively neutral flavor to allow the hummus to shine.

Tomato

Many people don’t consider tomato as an option for dipping into hummus, but the truth is that it is a fantastic choice. Be sure to choose a hearty variety of tomato that will stand up to being dipped into hummus.

Carrots

Perhaps the most popular vegetable for hummus dipping is the humble carrot. You can use either baby carrots or regular carrots that have been sliced into smaller pieces that are the perfect accompaniment to a plate of hummus. Yum!

When you think of a tomato, what pops into your mind? Normally, we picture tomatoes as being round and red vegetables that are delicious in a salad or on a hamburger. Many don’t know, however, that tomatoes come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and flavors. Here are some of the more unique tomato breeds available and why they are different.

Cherokee Purple

This tomato is, you guessed it, purple! They are about the size of a conventional tomato, but are known for their richness and purple color. They stand out in any salad due to their unique appearance.

Black Cherry

These miniature tomatoes are an offshoot of the conventional cherry tomato. The difference is that these tiny treats are very dark, nearly black, in color, and pack more flavor than the sometimes bland cherry tomatoes that we typically consume.

Green Zebra

Tomatoes are usually green when they are unripe, but did you know that there’s a tomato variety that stays green upon maturation? The green zebra tomato has a citrusy flavor and is perfect for recipes like fried green tomatoes, a Southern staple.

If you’re a gardener, plant these tomatoes today for a unique experience! If not, they are often available at produce shops and supermarkets. Happy eating!
