If pineapple happens to be your favorite fruit, you’re probably happy to consume it in pretty much any way—including liquid form. The list of drinks that pineapples are used in is pretty long, and here are four that will make you fall in love with this fruit all over again.

Pineapple Juice

If we had to pick the most popular drink made with pineapples, this one would make the cut. It’s used as the main ingredient in many other pineapple-based drinks, and you can either buy it at your local grocery store or make your own.

Pineapple Smoothies

Pretty much anything can be added to smoothies, including pineapples. Avoid any additional sweeteners when you’re using them in your smoothies because they’re already very sweet.

Tepache

This drink is pretty popular in Mexico, and it’s traditionally made from the peel and the rind of pineapples, with brown sugar and powdered cinnamon added to the mix.

Piña Colada

There are countless cocktails that you can make with pineapples and pineapple juice, but none of them compares to piña colada. Rum and coconut milk are also two of the main ingredients in this Puerto Rican classic.

Fruit have a handful of different factors that make it appealing (or unappealing) to eat. From freshness to sweetness, there’s a reason that some fruits are considerably more popular than others. One topic that doesn’t get talked about enough is that of stickiness. Perhaps it’s because stickiness doesn’t necessarily have much consequence on the flavor—but nevertheless, it contributes to the experience. So if you can’t stand anything sticky, here are three fruits you may want to avoid.

Mango

Mango may be one of the most delicious fruits around, but it’s also one the stickiest. Be honest with yourself. You enjoy an occasional mango, but if it wasn’t so sticky, you’d be eating that thing ’round the clock.

Pineapple

Here’s another fruit that you can’t quite shake the stickiness once you’ve held it in your hand for too long. Also quite delicious like mango, it won’t stop people from eating pineapple—but you may want to think twice if you’re about to shake someone’s hand.

Orange

With oranges, it’s not so much about the stickiness as it is about the squirting. Orange juice just gets everywhere when you dig into it, and this certainly contributes to a sticky, messy experience.

Trader Joe’s is one of our favorite places to go when we’re looking for new products to try. It’s kind of a novelty grocery store, and we love looking through the shelves any time of year to discover all of the fun seasonal products we won’t find anywhere else. Summer is no exception, and as the weather warms up and we’re in need of ways to cool down, you can be sure you’ll find us at TJ’s. Here are some of our current favorites:

Sparkling Pineapple Juice

Pineapple juice is super refreshing on its own, but add a little sparkle and you’ve got the perfect summer beverage sure to satisfy anyone, anytime. We love that they don’t add any extra sugar and let the natural sweetness of the pineapple shine on its own. Add a little booze for a quick and easy cocktail.

When Life Gives You Lemons Ice Cream

Think lemon meringue pie, but in ice cream form. It’s zesty, tangy and refreshingly sweet, and packed full of shortbread cookie bits. Throw some in the blender with your choice of milk and top with whipped cream to make it a milkshake.

Oat Non-Dairy Ice Cream Sandwiches

To all of our vegan and lactose intolerant friends, we recommend you run, don’t walk to pick up a box of this oat milk-based take on a classic summer treat. Two chocolate cookies surround a layer of creamy vanilla ice cream to create a sweet and not-too-heavy treat.

Most people eat their pineapple fresh and don’t even consider consuming it any other way, but grilled pineapple is a surprisingly delicious treat that you should try ASAP. If you’ve never tried making it before, here are three useful tips that will help you get it done.

Ripe Pineapples

You might be tempted to use canned or frozen pineapple if you’re struggling to find fresh fruits, but it’s best to wait until pineapples are in season. Ripe pineapples taste much better when grilled because their natural sugars make it easier to caramelize the fruit properly.

Right Sweeteners

Pineapples are so sweet and juicy on their own that using sugar is best avoided, but you can take your recipe to another level with natural sweeteners. Maple syrup, honey, and molasses are the best possible options, but you can also make your grilled pineapple super-tasty with extra seasonings.

Larger Pieces

Cutting your pineapple into smaller pieces isn’t the best idea if you’re thinking of grilling them. If you’re using grill grates, they’ll fall through if they’re too small, so it’s a much better idea to cut your pineapple into rings or long strips to improve the caramelization process.

Now that we’re just a few short months from summer, it’s time to get excited about summer fruit. One of our favorites is pineapple, but picking them can be difficult. When it comes to pineapple, when it’s not ripe, it doesn’t taste right. Underripe ones are woody and tart while overripe ones can taste off. So, how do you pick the perfect pineapple? Here are five ways to tell when a pineapple is ripe.

Color

The outside of the pineapple should be a light or medium-yellow color. While a bit of green is fine, avoid ones that are mostly green, dark yellow, or orange.

Weight

In general, ripe fruit is heavy for its size and the same goes for pineapple. Heavier pineapple means it’s juicer and sweeter.

Smell

Sniff the bottom of the pineapple and if it’s ripe it will smell sweet. If it doesn’t have a smell, it’s probably underripe and if it smells weird it may be overripe.

Texture

Squeeze the pineapple and if it feels firm with a little give, it’s ripe. Rock hard pineapple is underripe and squishy ones are overripe.

Fronds

Fronds, the spiky green top of the pineapple, should come off when you tug gently on one of the leaves when it’s ripe.

Pineapple is one of the most versatile fruits on the market, yet most people only eat it fresh or canned, without trying to get too creative. If you’re in the mood to try something a little bit different, these three dishes will help you see pineapple in a whole new light.

Pineapple Fried Rice

Great things can happen if you decide to scoop out the insides of your pineapple and use it to serve your dishes. You can get as creative as you want with your stuffing, but pineapple fried rice is one of the most popular dishes served this way.

Pineapple Salsa

Pineapple salsa is a fresh and fun party appetizer, and it will only take you a couple of minutes to prepare it. In addition to being easy to make, it’s also incredibly versatile—and you can serve it with your tortilla chips, tacos, and other Mexican dishes.

Pineapple Burgers

Pineapples can be used as an ingredient in your burgers in more ways than one. Most commonly, they’re used as an add-in in both regular and vegan burgers, but that’s not the only option. You can also use thick pineapple slices as your burger buns.

It might sound a bit crazy, but did you know that there are several fruits which taste great after being grilled? Even though we might not typically associate fruits with grilling, and certainly not all of them taste good after being cooked in this manner, there are some fruits that lend themselves to the smoky flavor of the grill.

Here are three that you should definitely try experimenting with!

Watermelon

Watermelon tastes great if prepared with a little bit of sugar and lime zest before putting it on the grill. If you’re looking to make it a little bit spicy, you can even try sprinkling on some red pepper flakes in order to give it a truly unique taste!

Pineapple

Pineapple is probably the most popular fruit to prepare in this manner, and with good reason. The smoky flavor that the grill imparts on this fruit is highly attractive, and the caramelization of the sugars also are a huge plus for the flavor.

Peaches

Grilled peaches are a fantastic side dish option and can also be the perfect complement to a dessert such as vanilla ice cream. Cinnamon sugar butter is often added to these peaches in order to give them a warm and delectable quality that you’ll never get tired of.

Marked by its iconic spiky feature it’s quite evident these fruits are pretty to gape at. Despite this, getting off those little neat cubes of this tropical fruit can be a daunting task.

As tempting as it may by to buy pre-cut packaged pineapple to avoid the fuss, cutting it yourself helps ensure that you are getting a farm-fresh product. To avoid temptation here is a step by step instruction on how to go about getting the most out of this delicious fruit.

Slice off the top and the bottom

Lay the fruit on a chopping board then chop off the top and the bottom. Make sure to use a sharp knife (carefully!) as it’ll make the whole process much easier.

Peel off the skin

Following the fruit contours, hold the fruit while slicing down top to bottom. Redo the procedure repeatedly to ensure there are no spiky skins left on the fruit.

Make strips out of the fruit

Make four lengthwise cuts on the fruit while it is still standing depending on your preference halve the slices.

Slice into cubes

Once your desired segments have been sliced lay the slices on a chopping board then slices the pieces depending on how you would want your cube sizes to be.
