Blueberry muffins are a popular breakfast option for many due to their convenience and deliciously sweet flavor. While we can’t deny that they are tasty, the truth is that this is because blueberry muffins are essentially cake in disguise. It’s okay to indulge in moderation, but the high sugar content can cause a sugar crash that leaves you feeling drained and sluggish. If you love blueberry muffins but are looking for breakfast ideas that help keep you full and energized, read on to discover some blueberry muffin-inspired recipes made with nutritious and filling ingredients.

Blueberry Muffin Breakfast Cookies

These cookies by Minimalist Baker have all of the fun fruity flavors of traditional blueberry muffins but are packed with protein and fiber to keep you full and focused all morning long. The recipe is vegan, but can also be made with eggs if you prefer to up the protein content.

Blueberry Muffin Smoothie

We love this smoothie by Nutrition Squeezed as a refreshing way to start the day or whenever we’re in need of an afternoon pick-me-up. It’s made with frozen blueberries along with seeds and oats to provide your body with the energy it needs, whatever the time of day. She recommends adding frozen zucchini or even cauliflower for extra fiber and nutrients.

Blueberry Muffin Protein Bars

Store-bought protein bars are fine in a pinch, but they’re often filled with lots of hidden sugar and don’t exactly tend to be budget-friendly. This recipe by Erin Lives Whole is based on the protein bar brand Perfect and includes instructions for over 10 different flavors. Our favorite is, of course, the blueberry muffin, which is made with dried blueberries and white chocolate along with protein powder and cashew butter.

In an age where celebrity-owned brands are a dime a dozen, it’s rare to find a product that stands out from the crowd. From makeup and skincare to home goods and even liquor, there doesn’t seem to be an industry untapped by some actor or musician with entrepreneurial aspirations. We’ve tried products from a fair few celebrity companies, and while many left much to be desired, we have discovered one brand that never disappoints.

Goodles is a healthy macaroni and cheese company co-founded by actress Gal Gadot, and their high-protein takes on this classic comfort food are as delicious as they are nutritious. Every 1 cup serving of Goodles mac and cheese contains 15 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber, and prebiotics from organic vegetables.

All of their products are made with good-for-you ingredients including chickpeas, spinach, and 100% real cheese. Healthy food doesn’t count for much if it doesn’t taste good, however, and when it comes to flavor, Goodles definitely delivers. You can say goodbye to that orange mystery powder—these boxed mac and cheeses are made with cheddar, parmesan, and asiago.

The brand currently offers seven different varieties, including their most recent releases Here Comes Truffle and Vegan is Believin’. Plans are in the works for gluten free options as well.

Products can be found at grocery stores nationwide and are available to order in 4-packs online here

The price of food is rising and everyone is struggling to buy nutritious food on a budget. Healthier foods are nearly three times more expensive than less healthy foods. All you need to do is shop smartly and make sure you are getting the most filling and nutritious foods for the right price. Here are the best healthy foods to buy on a budget.

Whole Grains

Whole grains are full of fiber and tend to be more filling and slow energy-releasing than your usual white-grain carbs. Look for offers on couscous or bulgar and supermarket own brands of oats. There is so much you can make with oats and they won’t break the bank.

Cheaper Fruit and Vegetable Options

Instead of trying to eat the rainbow and buying the “superfoods” start shopping for cheaper options of root vegetables, like onions, carrots, cabbage, and celery. Frozen and tinned vegetables and fruits are cheaper and still packed with vitamins and minerals. Frozen mixes of fruits for smoothies are also a great way to get your daily fix of fruits at a cheaper price.

Cheaper Dairy Options

Dairy has become very expensive in the past few months, but it is still possible to bargain shop and still receive the same nutrients. Instead of buying feta cheese, look at salad cheese which is less expensive and soft cheese instead of cream cheese. Cottage cheese and natural low-fat or greek yogurts will give you the most for your dollar.

Eating healthily can be done in a myriad of ways, and succeeding at it can usually be done by finding what you like best. Fiber is one of the most healthy elements that you can consume, which is why it’s important to eat foods that have plenty of it. So here are three delicious things to eat that are filled with fiber.

Edamame

Edamame has plenty of fiber, and it helps that it’s also incredibly tasty. Next time you’re sitting at a bar and the edamame bowl is being passed around, feel free to eat a handful of them with the peace of mind that you’re getting some great nutrients in the process.

Whole Wheat Pasta

Pasta tends to get a bad rap due to the fact that it possesses quite a lot of carbs. But it’s also important to remember that pasta isn’t all bad. In fact, it’s actually quite rich in fiber—so you definitely shouldn’t feel that guilty about eating it, especially if it’s whole wheat.

Barley

Barley might be one of the most underrated foods on the planet. Not just because it can be super yummy in the right dish (mushroom barley soup, anyone?), but also because it’s loaded with healthy fibers.

We’d all like to think that we’re eating healthily, but sometimes the truth is less accurate. However, this isn’t always our fault. Due to a combination of marketing, culture, and a healthy dose of delusion, we may think we’re consuming healthy products on a daily basis when the reality is far from the case. Here are a few foods and drinks that are much less healthy than you think.

Peanut Butter

Peanut butter at its core is pretty healthy, but unfortunately, so much of the peanut butter that most people consume is the less healthy variety. Skippy and Jif both have added sugars in their peanut butter, so be careful not to eat too much of it.

Orange and Apple Juice

Orange juice and apple juice are common fruit juices that are drunk on a daily basis, often under the guise of drinking something “healthy”. However, most of the brands, such as Tropicana, also serve a product that has a lot more sugar than you’d think.

“In-Between” Cereals

When it comes to cereal, there are some that are healthy, and some don’t pretend to be. But then there are the “in-betweeners”. The cereals that seem healthy, but aren’t quite, such as Cinnamon Life or Honey Nut Cheerios. They’re not so bad for you, but we wouldn’t exactly load up on them either.

Stocking your freezer with healthy foods is by far the best way to prepare healthy meals on a daily basis, even when you’re short on time. That being said, it’s not always easy to know which are the best foods to put in there, because space is limited. Here are some healthy foods you should always have in your freezer.

Mixed Berries

Berries are rich in antioxidants and they’re pretty versatile, so make sure to store a mix of your favorite berries in the freezer. They’re a healthy and tasty topping for pancakes, smoothies, oats, or Greek yogurt.

Fish

Buy fresh fish and store it in your freezer so you’ll always have something healthy to prepare for lunch or dinner. Fish is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids and it can be stored in the freezer for up to six months.

Spinach

Don’t underestimate this healthy green veggie, because spinach is packed with antioxidants, iron, calcium, and magnesium. It’s pretty useful to have in the freezer because you can cook it for lunch in less than 15 minutes.

Bread

Bread can be kept in the freezer for up to three months, which is a pretty useful tip for reducing food waste. Defrosted bread is just as tasty and useful to have in the kitchen for preparing quick meals.

Sophie Jaffe is an Instagram influencer, wellness blogger, and yoga instructor, but before all of that, she got her start as a raw food chef! After years of preparing tasty and nutritious meals for her clients, she decided to start her own brand of products designed to make her go-to ingredients accessible for everyone.

She puts her own spin on honey, powders, and coconut butter using superfoods to create products that make the perfect addition to any snack, breakfast, or even cup of coffee. Check out her website to browse them all. Here are some of our favorites.

Coconut Magic

This coconut butter really does taste like, well, magic. It’s sweetened with honey and has vanilla bean and cacao nibs, which together give it an almost cookie dough-like taste. It’s also full of protein and works perfectly when eaten with oatmeal, toast, or even as a substitute for coffee creamer.

Berry Bliss Power

Almost everything you need for a smoothie in one pouch—acai, goji, pomegranate, and more. Blend it up with some plant-based milk and frozen bananas for a refreshing shake packed with vitamin C.

Green Bee Honey

Get your greens without even tasting them. This honey is made with spirulina, a type of algae known for its antioxidant properties.

There are plenty of fruits and veggies that we know are healthy and nutritious, but we still don’t eat them very often. All of the foods on our list today are very underrated, but they should definitely be part of every balanced and healthy diet.

Ginger

Ginger may not be the tastiest food, but it has been praised for its health benefits for decades. There are plenty of easy ways to incorporate ginger into your daily routine by adding it to your coffee, tea, smoothies, or soups.

Eggplant

Eggplant is a low-calorie food that’s rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber. Enjoy eggplant more often by grilling, baking, or adding it to your pasta and stir-fry.

Beans

Beans are also extremely underrated even though they are an excellent source of protein and antioxidants. You can add beans to your pasta, salads, and many other tasty dishes.

Dates

Dates are very sweet so you can use them as a natural sweetener because they are extremely healthy and packed with vitamins and minerals.

Red Bell Peppers

Red bell peppers contain more vitamin C than oranges and they’re also a good source of vitamin A and fiber. That’s why you shouldn’t overlook these tasty veggies that can help improve your skin health and immune system.
