Over-Salted Your Food? Here’s How to Fix That

Ever been told that you can add more but can’t take it back? That seemed to be the rule of thumb as far as seasoning was concerned. But, sometimes, your hand is a little too heavy with that salt shaker and your food all of a sudden tastes like Lot’s wife. If that’s the case, don’t worry. Here are some ways to remedy your dish.

Potato Power

You’ve probably heard of this fix before. If you’ve added too much salt to your soup, add in pieces of potato. The root veggie should absorb some of the salt as it cooks and can then be removed. If this doesn’t work, you can also try diluting the soup with water or doubling the recipe.

Rinse and Repurpose

As crazy as it sounds, you can actually rinse cooked meat or chicken that is too much on the salty side. Rinse the meat using hot water, give it a really quick re-grill or sear, let it rest, and then serve it. If it’s too far gone, though, cut it up and throw it in a salad where the greens and other ingredients should balance it out.
