Soda enthusiasts are one fanbase that isn’t easily pleased. For example, Mountain Dew has countless different flavors and varieties, but that didn’t stop the soda brand’s fans from spending the past several years asking for the one that isn’t there; the discontinued Mountain Dew Pitch Black. And they were so persistent in this that the company didn’t have any other choice but to oblige.
Mountain Dew officially announced earlier this week that Mtn Dew Pitch Black is making its glorious return. The drink, described as “DEW with a blast of dark citrus punch flavor,” will become available nationwide in early 2023.
“You can stop asking. Mtn Dew Pitch Black is coming back. Celebrate accordingly,” the company wrote on social media announcing the news.
Besides the original drink, the Pitch Black will also be available in the zero sugar edition as well as an energy drink.
Mountain Dew Pitch Black was initially introduced in 2004 as a limited-edition Halloween drink. It turned out to be a big success, prompting the company to release another variation, titled Pitch Black II, in 2005.
Mtn Dew Pitch Black would go on to have several reincarnations since then before being added to a permanent lineup of flavors in 2015. However, it didn’t last long, being scrapped by the company in 2019 and limited only to certain soda fountains.
