Dried Fruit Isn’t As Healthy As You Think It Is

We all tend to reach for fruit when advised to eat healthier, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we should eat it any way we like. Dried fruit is a pretty popular alternative to other sweet treats, but here’s a couple of reasons why it’s not as healthy as you think it is.

Added Sugar

The main reason why dried fruit isn’t good for you is all the extra sugar it contains. Dried fruit is often coated with added sugar or syrup before being dried, so it’s extremely important to check the label and examine the list of ingredients before buying dried fruit.

Extra Calories

Another downside of dried fruit is it contains a lot of calories due to its high sugar content. If you’re craving something sweet and refreshing, fresh fruit is a much better option, because it won’t have a harmful effect on your health.

Hard to Say No

Another downside of dried fruit is it’s really difficult to stop eating it once you open the bag. The fructose it contains doesn’t send a signal to your brain when you’re full, so it’s pretty easy to go through a whole bag of dried fruit and still feel hungry.
