Check Out the World’s Largest Fruit Display!

In the classic words of Gwen Stefani, “This s*** is bananas!” Bananas are reportedly the fourth most popular agriculture product in the world, with 100 billion eaten globally every year. Suffice it to say, these guys have fans. And now, the yellow fruit is part of a Guinness World Record.

As bananas as it may sound (ahem), produce companies Fresh Del Monte and Jewel-Osco attempted to put on the world’s largest fruit display in Westmond, Illinois. And when we say large, that’s exactly what we mean!

Coming in at 118 feet wide and 11 feet high, a whopping 211,200 bananas were used. That equated to 1,920 cases of bananas across 40 pallets, resulting in a weight of 77,365.9 pounds. That’s a lot of potassium.

The banana display officially claimed the new Guinness record, beating the one set just a few months ago in January that consisted of citrus. More than 100,000 oranges, mandarins, lemons, grapefruits, and tangelos were used to create the 40,013 pound display at a store in Louisiana.

Once the record had been officially secured, the thousands of bananas were given away to customers and donated to the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
