Every coffee enthusiast has a preferred brewing method. If you’re torn between the traditional French press and the convenient drip coffee maker, you’re not alone. Both methods have their unique charms and benefits so let’s break down the differences.

French Press is Hands-On

The French press is a hands-on approach to brewing. It uses a cylindrical pot with a plunger and a built-in filter screen that presses hot water through ground coffee. This method allows the coffee to steep directly in the boiling water for several minutes, which results in a robust and richly flavored brew. The key characteristic of French press coffee is that it retains more of the coffee’s natural oils and fine particles. This gives it a thicker and fuller body with a noticeable amount of sediment.

Drip Coffee is Automated

Drip coffee machines, on the other hand, provide a more automated brewing experience. Water is heated and then dripped over coffee grounds contained in a filter. As water passes through the grounds, it extracts flavors and aromas. However, the paper or metal filter traps most of the coffee’s oils and finer particles, producing a cleaner and lighter brew. This method is favored for its convenience and consistency, delivering a smoother cup that is generally easier to drink with less residue.

Let’s talk wine. Whether you’re planning a sophisticated soirée or a casual gathering, the right wine pairings can leave a lasting impression. To make your job a little bit easier, here are a few of our favorite wines and some tips on how to serve them.

A Festive Start

Kick off your party with a pop by serving a sparkling wine such as Prosecco or Champagne. These bubbly options are not only perfect for toasting but also pair wonderfully with appetizers, thanks to their crisp acidity and effervescence.

Light and Versatile

For a white wine that’s as versatile as it is refreshing, Sauvignon Blanc is an excellent choice. It goes great with lighter proteins like chicken or fish. A New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, with its vibrant fruit flavors, is one of our favorites

Rich and Complex

A medium-bodied Pinot Noir is the perfect red wine to bridge the gap between white wine drinkers and those who prefer something fuller. It pairs with a wide range of foods, from grilled vegetables to meats like lamb or duck.

A Sweet Finale

No dinner party is complete without a sweet note to finish. Depending on your dessert, a Port or a Sauternes can be a divine pairing and will surely impress your guests.

If you’re looking to shake up your smoothie game with dairy-free alternatives, meet your new best friends: coconut yogurt and avocado. These creamy ingredients not only add a rich texture to your blends, but also pack some valuable nutrients to keep you energized and healthy throughout the day.

Which Suits You Best?

Each of these two ingredients carries unique traits that’ll set the tone of your dairy-free smoothie. While coconut yogurt will add a tropical feel and subtle sweetness to your blends, avocado will make for velvety smoothies that are also packed with healthy fats—it’s all about personal preferences.

Best of Both Worlds

Hey, there’s nothing keeping you from using both coconut yogurt and avocado in the same smoothie. Get the best of both worlds by starting with a base of creamy coconut yogurt, and then adding in some ripe avocado. Throw in your favorite fruits, some leafy greens, and (optional) a splash of almond milk. Blend until smooth, and voila! You’ve got yourself a creamy, dairy-free masterpiece.

Every coffee enthusiast has a preferred brewing method. If you’re torn between the traditional French press and the convenient drip coffee maker, you’re not alone. Both methods have their unique charms and benefits so let’s break down the differences.

This method is favored for its convenience and consistency, delivering a smoother cup that is generally easier to drink with less residue.

Whether enjoyed as a refreshing breakfast option, a post-workout pick-me-up, or a midday snack, this green goodness is sure to leave you feeling revitalized and ready to tackle whatever comes your way. Let’s dive into the recipe for this revitalizing drink.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of fresh spinach leaves
  • 1 ripe banana, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup of chopped cucumber
  • 1/2 cup of chopped pineapple (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 avocado, peeled and pitted
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk (or any milk of your choice)
  • Juice of 1/2 lime or lemon
  • Optional: Honey or maple syrup, to taste (for added sweetness)
  • Ice cubes (optional, for a colder smoothie)

Instructions:

  1. Place the fresh spinach leaves, sliced banana, chopped cucumber, chopped pineapple, avocado, and chia seeds into a blender. Squeeze the juice of half a lime or lemon into the blender for a refreshing citrus twist.
  2. Pour in the unsweetened almond milk (or your preferred choice of milk) to help blend the ingredients into a smooth consistency. If desired, add a drizzle of honey or maple syrup to sweeten the smoothie to your taste preferences.
  3. You can also add a handful of ice cubes to the blender if you prefer a colder, more refreshing smoothie. Secure the lid on the blender and blend the ingredients on high speed until smooth and creamy. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides of the blender with a spatula to ensure all the ingredients are well incorporated.
  4. Once the smoothie reaches your desired consistency, taste and adjust the sweetness or tartness by adding more honey, maple syrup, or citrus juice if needed. Pour the smoothie into glasses and serve immediately. Enjoy the revitalizing burst of energy and nourishment from this delicious and nutritious green drink, savoring each refreshing sip as you fuel your body with essential vitamins and minerals.

Is it really a surprise that this classic favorite is getting makeovers? The paradoxically named iced hot cocoa is a refreshing yet cozy beverage that combines the comforting flavors of hot chocolate with the coolness of an iced drink. Here’s how to whip up this delicious contradiction in a cup.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of milk (dairy or plant-based)
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ice cubes
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together the milk, cocoa powder, and sugar.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, constantly stirring until the cocoa and sugar are completely dissolved and the mixture is hot but not boiling. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Transfer the cocoa mixture to a heat-proof pitcher and let it cool to room temperature. Once cooled, refrigerate until chilled.
  4. Fill a tall glass halfway with ice cubes. Pour the chilled cocoa mixture over the ice, leaving some room at the top for whipped cream if you’re using it.
  5. Dollop whipped cream on top of the cocoa if desired, and sprinkle with chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder for that extra touch of indulgence.
