Why Homemade Pasta Is Just That Much Better

Everyone has a “aha” moment when it comes to pasta. It’s the moment where they learn that pasta is so much more than throwing a bunch of hard spaghetti strands that came in a box into a pot of boiling water. It’s the moment that they realize that authentic pasta is something completely different. If you haven’t had that “aha” moment yet, here’s what authentic pasta is all about.

A Whole Different Thing

It’s strange that a food can be so simple to make if you do it one way, and so complicated if you do it another way. Instead of going the “box” way, making pasta the right way involves mixing eggs in a volcano-like flour structure, until you achieve a doughy consistency.

Then you’ll need to go through a process of “folding” the pasta, in order to make it as thin as possible. It needs to be thin because it’ll expand once you cook it. Once that part is done, it’s time to actually shape the pasta into whatever variety you like, whether it be penne, tortellini, spaghetti, you name it. Depending on what you choose, you may need a special tool to achieve the result. When you’re done, you can proceed to boil the pasta in a pot of water.

This is the basic overview of how it’s done, but hopefully this should shed light just how different it is than preparing pasta from a box. It’s just a whole different experience, and the taste reflects that as well.
