Earlier this year, we predicted which food trends would be taking our newsfeeds and supermarkets by storm in 2019. Environmentally friendly changes were the biggest trends by far, and these are the ones which are still going strong in summer.
Going Meat-Free
The plant-based food trend is continuing to grow and spread. More and more people are opting to eat vegetarian at meal-times, helping to reduce the damage caused by farmland to the planet.
Ugly Veg
More supermarkets are selling “wonky veg” at lower prices instead of throwing them away. This means less food waste and more yummy veg in our meals.
Recyclable Packaging
Carlsberg are now gluing their cans together to reduce plastic waste and Walkers are on the way to making their crisp packets recyclable. Cafes are also encouraging consumers to only take a plastic cup if they are taking away and plastic straws are slowly disappearing too.
Oat Milk
Oat milk is the new soy milk. Not only is it way more environmentally friendly, it’s more delicious and is starting to appear in coffee shops internationally.
