Tips to Create the Best Chicken Stock

Homemade chicken stock is a way better option than store bought stock. Not only will you save money, you’ll also get a good product that suits your need. You can use chicken parts or even leftover bones to make it.

There’s no doubt homemake chicken stock tastes bette, but it does require some effort to prepare. The best part is that you can store it up to three months. Using chicken parts for stock is far cheaper than using other types of meat. Chicken parts such as bones, breast, whole chicken and legs work well and can produce a nice rich stock.

Here are a few tips for creating the best homemade chicken stock:

  1. You will need about 12 cups of water. If you want a light but rich flavored stock, use up to 4 pounds of chicken. A richer flavored stock requires eight pounds.
  2. Add lots of aromatics such as chopped onions, celery, carrots, garlic and more. You can also add peppercorns, bay leaves, and other fresh herbs. Fennel and leek may come in handy as well.
  3. Allow the stock to simmer. Keep it cooking over a low heat as it helps keep it clear.
