When the sun comes out and the temperature goes up, there are few things we love more than an ice cold glass of lemonade to help us cool down. In fact, we tend to think of this classic drink as an unofficial symbol of summer, perfect for sipping on everywhere from beaches to barbecues. While store-bought lemonade will do in a pinch, there’s something about the homemade version that just tastes better, especially when combined with seasonal fruit. Read on for some of our favorite lemonade recipes that taste like summer in a glass.

Watermelon Mint Lemonade

Fresh and juicy watermelon provides a delicious complement to the tanginess of lemon juice in this 6-ingredient lemonade recipe by Farm Flavor. Sweetened with a homemade mint simple syrup, it has a unique and refreshing flavor that makes it a perfect summer treat. Top it with more mint and some lemon slices for a pop of color.

Fresh Peach Lemonade

Peaches are underrated as far as summer fruit goes, and we’re prepared to die on this hill. Think about it—how many other fruits are sweet, tangy, and juicy all at the same time? One of our go-to ways to enjoy peaches is with lemonade, especially this recipe by Pink Owl Kitchen. It’s sweetened with fresh peach brown sugar syrup, though we love to add some extra peach slices for garnish.

Cherry Rosemary Lemonade

We can’t honestly say it would have ever occurred to us to make lemonade with fresh cherries and rosemary on our own, but one sip of this recipe by Vegan Candyland, and we were hooked. Dark cherries balance the tartness of the lemons with a kind of rich sweetness, while a sprig of fresh rosemary spices things up. It’s like pink lemonade, all grown up.

From lounging by the pool to relaxing on the beach, there are few things that hot summer days call for more than seasonal fruit – especially if that fruit is part of a cocktail. While we’ll never say no to a frozen margarita, and piña coladas certainly have their place, these drinks require a lot of ingredients and can be messy to prepare. Fortunately, we’ve discovered a few easy ways to combine our favorite summer fruits with booze that don’t even require breaking out the blender. If you’re looking for fun summer drink ideas, read on to learn more about how to make them for yourself.

Champagne Sugar Grapes

Take a bunch of grapes and poke each one once with a toothpick. Soak for about 8 hours in a bowl of sparkling wine, then roll them in sugar before serving. Sure, there may be something a bit questionable about soaking grapes in what is essentially grape juice, but we promise that they make for an incredible combination. Just don’t think about it too much.

Vodka Watermelon

Cut a hole the size of the vodka bottle cap into a seedless watermelon, then poke a skewer into the hole to make sure you’ve completely cut through the rind. Carefully tip the vodka bottle into the hole, making sure that it fits snugly enough to stay upright. Leave it to drain into the watermelon for at least 20 minutes or until the bottle is emptied. Chill before serving, and you’ve got a party on a platter.

Tequila Pineapple

Cut a pineapple into spears and remove the rind. Place the spears in a bowl or tupperware container, then pour in your choice of tequila until all of the pineapple is completely covered. Refrigerate for 4-6 hours before serving. You can also experiment with using different types of liquor depending on your preferences. We find Malibu Rum also works well and adds a refreshing, tropical taste that complements the pineapple perfectly.

First up, the spicy margarita. This classic cocktail gets a twist with the addition of jalapeño slices, adding a kick of heat to the sweet and sour flavors of the margarita. Simply mix tequila, lime juice, and agave nectar in a shaker with ice, then add sliced jalapeños to infuse the spice. Strain into a glass with ice and enjoy!

For a sweeter option, try the strawberry spritz. Mix fresh strawberries with vodka, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a shaker with ice, then strain into a glass with ice and top with sparkling water. Garnish with a strawberry and a sprig of mint for a refreshing and colorful drink.

Finally, for a crowd-pleasing option, make a pitcher of summer sangria. Mix your favorite red wine with orange juice, brandy, and sliced fruit like peaches, oranges, and berries. Let it chill in the fridge for a few hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld together.

Ok, we’ll give you one more. Check out this yummy blueberry mojito.

This summer will be fueled by nostalgia, thanks to SunnyD’s newest drink.

The orange-flavored beverage was a staple of many childhoods as it labeled itself as a healthier alternative to soda. During the late ‘90s, it was the third-biggest selling drink in the UK after Coca-Cola and Pepsi.

SunnyD’s flavor range has expanded over the years, growing from just orange to orange mango, orange pineapple, orange strawberry, blue raspberry, watermelon, and lemonade.

Their newest addition is for kids over 21.

SunnyD Vodka Seltzer contains 4.5% alcohol and comes in a four-pack, as well as individual cans.

“SunnyD is a powerful brand, the most boldly unique orange drink on the planet,” said Ilene Bergenfeld, the chief marketing officer of Harvest Hill Beverage Company. “Consumers are passionate about this iconic brand, rooted in nostalgia but with a taste that resonates today. Many have told us that they enjoy SunnyD as a mixer and asked for this product. So, we looked at the hard seltzer category, and thought, good, but we can do better. And SunnyD Vodka Seltzer was born.”

So, if that feeling of wanting to revisit your childhood strikes while on a night out, you know what to order.

Summer would be incomplete without all the delicious and refreshing drinks keeping us hydrated—and we’re not just talking about water! From lemonades to margaritas, summer is the perfect time to try all sorts of different beverages, and Jeanine Donofrio is sharing recipes for her all-time favorites on her food blog Love & Lemons.

Lemonade

Lemonade is an all-time summer classic, and if you still don’t have your go-to recipe, Donofrio’s homemade lemonade is just the thing you need on a hot summer day.

Mojito

This traditional Cuban cocktail also tends to make a comeback every time summer arrives. It’s usually made with white rum, sugar, lime juice, soda water, and mint, and Donofrio will teach you how to put a twist on the traditional recipe.

Classic Margarita

Made with tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice, a margarita is one of the first drinks that come to mind when someone mentions the word “cocktail”. Donofrio is a huge fan of this beverage, and she enjoys spicing it up by adding jalapeño slices to the mix.

Strawberry Margarita

The list of margarita variations is pretty much endless and you can find quite a few on Donofrio’s blog, including the recipe for these sweet and refreshing strawberry margaritas.

Trader Joe’s is one of our favorite places to go when we’re looking for new products to try. It’s kind of a novelty grocery store, and we love looking through the shelves any time of year to discover all of the fun seasonal products we won’t find anywhere else. Summer is no exception, and as the weather warms up and we’re in need of ways to cool down, you can be sure you’ll find us at TJ’s. Here are some of our current favorites:

Sparkling Pineapple Juice

Pineapple juice is super refreshing on its own, but add a little sparkle and you’ve got the perfect summer beverage sure to satisfy anyone, anytime. We love that they don’t add any extra sugar and let the natural sweetness of the pineapple shine on its own. Add a little booze for a quick and easy cocktail.

When Life Gives You Lemons Ice Cream

Think lemon meringue pie, but in ice cream form. It’s zesty, tangy and refreshingly sweet, and packed full of shortbread cookie bits. Throw some in the blender with your choice of milk and top with whipped cream to make it a milkshake.

Oat Non-Dairy Ice Cream Sandwiches

To all of our vegan and lactose intolerant friends, we recommend you run, don’t walk to pick up a box of this oat milk-based take on a classic summer treat. Two chocolate cookies surround a layer of creamy vanilla ice cream to create a sweet and not-too-heavy treat.

Coconut milk is a delicious and versatile ingredient which is used in a multitude of dishes and drinks. Recently it is often suggested as a milk substitute in cooking as plant milks gain popularity. But coconut milk really shines best when its unique flavor is integral to the dish. Here are some ways to use coconut milk if you have some and aren’t sure what to make.

Thai Curry

One of the best dishes that uses coconut milk is Thai curry. You can use store-bought curry paste, or make your own. Fry up some veggies and a protein with the curry paste, then add coconut milk and simmer for a hearty, rich, and healthy meal.

Jamaican Bammies

Bammies are flatbread fritters made from yuca (cassava) and are often served with fish. Make these simple but delicious pancakes by soaking shredded cassava in coconut milk and frying to crispy perfection.

Drinks

There are two drinks that are particularly good with coconut milk: Thai iced tea and piña coladas. Thai iced tea uses sweet black tea with added flavors like tamarind and star anise, and plenty of coconut milk to add flavor and cream. Meanwhile piña colada is a delicious cocktail, best made by blending fresh pineapple, coconut milk, and rum with ice in a blender.

Summer is here, and what better way to beat the heat than with a refreshing cocktail? Whether you’re lounging poolside or hosting a backyard barbecue, these delicious and easy-to-make cocktails are sure to impress your guests.
