Did you know that it’s possible to make your own tofu at home? We had no idea until Julius, also known as BakingHermann on Instagram, showed us we can! Julius’ Instagram account, @BakingHermann, has so many vegan dishes, all inspired by traditional meals eaten around the world. His content is unique and we can see his passion for cooking come through in every video.

He shows people that not only can you make tofu yourself, but there are so many different ingredients you can make homemade tofu from! Traditionally tofu is made of curdled soy milk that had been pressed into block form. It’s a great source of vegan protein, and it’s used in so many dishes. You can buy it in various ways, ranging from silken to extra firm. But BakingHermann shows us that it doesn’t end there!

He has taken to Instagram to give the ASMR recipes of our dreams, and five of those happen to be tofu made of different ingredients. He has recipes for tofu made of black beans, calypso beans, hemp seeds, chickpeas, and soybeans! He shows us that there are ways to make tofu out of ingredients we can get locally, which is super important for reducing waste!

December is coming up soon, and if you have a beer lover in your life—there’s a present you should be considering this holiday season.

Homebrewing beer has become all the rage recently, as tools and ingredients necessary for making suds from the comfort of your own home have started to become more widely available for personal use.

One of the best ways to start with this exciting tradition is to get a homebrewing kit—a new tool companies have begun to put on the market that gives you everything you need to make beer at home.

Brewing beer is a process that requires yeast, hops, and grain along with water to begin the process of fermentation and the elaboration of a delicious beer. You’ll get all of these things—along with a fermentation tank that allows for this process to happen—when buying a kit.

There are kits with ingredients for all kinds of beers—from Belgian ales to IPAs—meaning you can choose one which best fits the tastes of your loved one.

So, be sure to keep a homebrewing kit in mind this holiday season when thinking about what to buy your beer-loving loved ones!

“I believe enjoying beautiful food with the people I love is one of life’s simple pleasures,” notes Alexander on her website. “Many of my fondest memories are from around the kitchen table; meaningful moments spent while sharing a meal with others. Whether it’s a quiet night in with friends or an extravagant Christmas lunch celebrating with extended family, these moments are treasured and are almost always centered around food.”

Indeed, Alexander’s identity seems to be tied up with food from the very beginning. Based in Australia, she remembers spending most her formative years in the kitchen cooking up a storm with her mum, tasting, learning, and experimenting. So much so that by the age of 12 he was already preparing three-course meals for dinner parties.

Nowadays her wish is simple—to pass her accumulated knowledge to others so they can enjoy not only the endless possibilities with food, but the social gathering that comes with it.

If you’re anything like us—and as you’re here, we’re guessing you are—you’re probably on the lookout when it comes to viral food content. But why not broaden your horizon?

This week, we’d like to introduce you to Singapore’s most celebrated foodie, Brad Lau. Known online as LadyIronChef, Lau has amassed some 600k followers on Instagram thanks to his short videos showcasing some of the most appetizing dishes (because who can say no to that?!).

His website and Instagram page also include restaurant reviews—but he leaves out star ratings. “I do not give a star rating for my reviews, as I believe food is subjective,” he remarked once in an interview with HungryGoWhere. “I always encourage my readers to try things with an open mind. ‘Food’ is definitely the most important criterion—I will eat at a place as long as it serves good food.”

“I always make it a point to inquire everything about the restaurant—from its chef, to its dishes, to the philosophy behind the cooking and its operating hours,” adds Lau, explaining that this information allows for a comprehensive post-session review.

We miss Bali and Nasi Goreng! 😭

But when it comes to the actual reviewing, he keeps it simply and snappy. “I try not to be too factual, as I want the people who have not tasted the food before to be able to relate to the descriptions.”

Follow his Instagram account for those mouth-watering shots.

It’s true: certain pasta shapes do go better with certain sauces. Step up your pasta game by understanding the different shapes and when to use each one. Though there are about 350 pasta shapes out there, this simple guide will help you match the popular types to the perfect sauce.

Penne

This tubular pasta pairs well with a variety of sauces. However, smooth, silky sauces work best as they can flow into the hollow tubes for maximum flavor experience.

Pappardelle

Wide ribbons of egg pasta are traditionally reserved for heartier sauces. A chunky ragu works very beautifully with this shape, as the sauce gets trapped between the lovely folds of the pasta.

Angel Hair

Angel hair is incredibly thin and easily weighed down by heavy sauces. A simple sauce of butter, lemon and parmesan is just enough to bring out the delicate texture of this pasta.

Fusilli

Its fun, coil shape works great for baked dishes or pasta salad. Zesty pesto is the perfect choice for this noodle, as tasty bits of basil and garlic cling to the twists.

Ravioli

Filled pastas such as ravioli or tortellini are often already full of flavor from their fillings. Pair them with a light olive oil or butter sauce to allow the tasty stuffings to shine through.

If you’re craving Asian food, then you’ll definitely want to try this recipe. Omurice is a type of egg dish that represents the Japanese take on scrambled eggs. It’s usually topped with ketchup and it’s a home stape dish – ask any Japanese person and they’ll tell you their version of how to make it. Haven’t tried omurice yet? Give it a shot with these reasons to try it out.

East Meets West

This egg dish is west meets east with its Asian influence with a western origin. It’s a traditional omelette and it’s typically served on a bed of rice and sauce. This savory dish is perfect for almost any occasion and it tastes so filling.

Go Wild With the Ingredients

Wanna try sweet potatoes in your omelette? Go for it. Spinach also tastes good. The great thing about omurice is you can mix the veggie varieties and play around with the flavors. Instead of ketchup, you can also opt for vegan mayo or even sriracha!

Every kitchen utensil has a specific purpose and oftentimes the way you use a them really affects your the texture and flavor of  your dishes. If you are looking to get more into the culinary world and start experimenting with sauces and purees, you first have to learn which recipes go with which utensil/appliance. Read on to figure out how to take your cooking up a notch with these guideline.

Blenders

You want to use a blender specifically for sauces that need to be really smooth. Unless you have a super high-speed blender, this will also involve some sort of liquid to get the ingredients moving. When you’re making a sauce like romesco with a combination of raw and cooked ingredients, the blender gets the job done.

Food Processor

A food processor is best used for sauces that don’t have a lot of liquid like pestos or hummus. If you add too much liquid to these types of sauces you will find that your sauces’ consistency and flavor might be a bit off.

Immersion Blender

This tool is perfect for smoothing out sauces and purees if you’re making something in a pot. You can simply stick the immersion blender right in and make everything smooth without transferring it to another dish or adding liquid.
