]]>From mashed potatoes to green bean casserole, butter is used to add richness and flavor to tons of holiday side dishes. While vegan meat substitutes still have a ways to go, many of today’s plant-based butters are so similar to the real thing that it’s hard to tell the difference. Just swap at a 1:1 ratio to give all of your side dishes a creamy indulgence — 100% dairy-free.
Soups, gravies, and stuffings often call for some kind of broth as a base, and while, traditionally, turkey or beef-based options are used as a default, switching them out for vegetable broth is an easy way to make your menu more vegan-friendly. For heartier dishes that could benefit from a more savory flavor, you can also try mushroom broth.
Whether your guests are vegan or have dietary restrictions around dairy, coconut cream makes an excellent alternative to heavy cream. With a smooth, rich texture and a subtle coconut flavor, it’s perfect for enhancing both savory dishes and seasonal desserts. Pop it in the fridge and chill overnight, then whip it with some powdered sugar and a splash of vanilla for coconut whipped cream.

]]>A survey conducted by bakery brand St. Pierre and analytics firm OnePoll found that on average, those who host Christmas dinner have around “three disasters” every year.
The most common mishaps?
Burning the turkey, burning the stuffing, undercooking the roast potatoes, making soggy vegetables, undercooking the vegetables, forgetting to serve the gravy with the meal, serving cold food, forgetting to supply vegetarian and vegan alternatives for guests, and forgetting the Christmas pudding.
“It’s safe to say the majority of us have experienced some sort of unplanned mishap at Christmas,” stated a spokesperson for St Pierre.
“A lot of the list of disasters are food focused because food is such an important part of the occasion and it’s something everyone wants to get right to impress others. No matter how bad it might feel messing up on Christmas Day, those who have experienced such a thing agree that it’s all part of making memories.”
Just remember: even the best chefs make mistakes in the kitchen. Practice making the dishes ahead of time and always have ready-to-eat foods as a backup.

]]>This plant-based alternative to eggnog contains the perfect amount of sweetness without being overbearing. It has a subtle oat flavor, which we were surprised to discover works quite well, and it’s lovely when topped with a little nutmeg.
There was a time where we believed that the perfect eggnog didn’t exist, but then we tried Southern Comfort. Their take on eggnog is rich, creamy, and indulgent on its own, but made even better with a shot of the brand’s famous whiskey.
For a lighter option, try Califia Farms Holiday Nog. It’s made with an almond milk base, so it’s less creamy than eggnogs made with dairy and eggs, yet still offers all of the familiar flavor we look for.
