A Guide to the Best Grocery Store Eggnog Brands

When it comes to classic holiday foods and drinks, there may not be a more controversial offering than eggnog. Traditionally, eggnog is made with milk, sugar, cream, egg yolks and nutmeg and spiked with rum or brandy, though store-bought versions don’t usually contain alcohol. The ingredients may be simple, and although we ourselves are on team eggnog, preparing it from scratch can be tricky. For our holiday parties, we prefer to go with ready-made. Not all eggnogs are created equal, so choosing the right brand can make or break a holiday party menu. Here are the ones we’ll be serving this season.

Chobani Oat Nog

This plant-based alternative to eggnog contains the perfect amount of sweetness without being overbearing. It has a subtle oat flavor, which we were surprised to discover works quite well, and it’s lovely when topped with a little nutmeg.

Southern Comfort Traditional Eggnog

There was a time where we believed that the perfect eggnog didn’t exist, but then we tried Southern Comfort. Their take on eggnog is rich, creamy, and indulgent on its own, but made even better with a shot of the brand’s famous whiskey.

Califia Farms Holiday Nog

For a lighter option, try Califia Farms Holiday Nog. It’s made with an almond milk base, so it’s less creamy than eggnogs made with dairy and eggs, yet still offers all of the familiar flavor we look for.
