Taco Bell Just Faced a Shortage of Mexican Pizza

The Foodie community was thrilled when the news broke out that Taco Bell will bring back a fan-favorite menu item, Mexican Pizza. However, it appears that no one, not even the fast-food chain itself, was ready for the demand that ensued.

The Mexican Pizza made its way back to menus roughly two weeks ago, but customers are already having a hard time ordering them at their local stores. As it turns out, Taco Bell miscalculated the demand and many locations have already run out of necessary ingredients.

The Mexican Pizza shortage was even addressed on Taco Bell’s official Twitter. The company’s social media team recently sent out a tweet revealing that the demand was “7x more than we expected.” They also asked fans for patience, saying that they are working “as fast as we can” on restocking the ingredients.

Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza consists of pizza sauce and ground beef or beans sandwiched between two tortilla shells. The dish is then topped with cheese, tomatoes, and more pizza sauce.

The menu item was initially introduced in 1985 before being discontinued in late 2020 as the company looked for ways to deal with supply issues caused by the pandemic. It made an official comeback on May 19 and Taco Bell promised it was here to stay. However, their resolve to make that happen is being tested much sooner than anyone expected.
