Some Condiments are Much Healthier Than Others

Condiments are so important for picnics, cookouts, or just everyday meals. But, not all of them are made equal, so figure out which are better than the rest.

Ketchup

While ketchup doesn’t have many calories in it, there is a lot of added sugar in it which makes it really bad for you. Especially when you consider that most people don’t just use a little bit of ketchup at a cookout, you have to watch it.

Mustard

Most kinds of mustards, especially whole grain and Dijon mustards, are super good for you. The reason why is because it’s mostly made up of mustard seeds and vinegar, both things that have a lot of health benefits and essentially no calories.

Mayonaise

Mayo is undoubtfully a delicious condiment, whether you’re using it as a spread or as an ingredient in another dish. However, 1 tablespoon alone comes out at almost 100 calories, which is really so much considering how little 1 tablespoon is. Mayo is definitely something you have to be careful with.

Hot Sauce

Hot sauce is an awesome condiment because it brings a lot of flavor, complexity, and is pretty good for you. Hot sauce is also vinegar-based, although it can have a little too much salt, just check the kind you like most so you know what you’re dealing with.
