Have you ever been interested in how chefs of varying levels of expertise would prepare the same dish? Well, you’re in luck! Over on YouTube, the “Epicurious” channel has a fantastic series of videos that show different chefs’ takes on the same dish called “4 Levels of:.”
These quirky and interesting videos show chefs making everyday foods such as waffles, hamburgers, and fettuccine alfredo. This sounds like a pretty standard idea, but the interesting thing about these videos is the varying levels of expertise and ability on display.
There are always four chefs in these videos, arranged in the following sequence:
- Amateur: Level 1
- Home Cook: Level 2
- Professional: Level 3
- Food Scientist: Level 4
The videos start with the amateur chef, who typically prepares a rudimentary version of the dish. After this, a “home chef” who is interested in cooking and has some experience in the kitchen prepares their version, while a professional chef that works in a highly-rated restaurant comes in afterward.
After the three different versions are presented, a professional food scientist reviews their work and then presents their own ideas about how the dish should be made and what the other chefs got right and wrong.
