Rhian William Used the Power of Plant-Based Food to Combat Chronic Disease

Rhian Williams’ life took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with a serious chronic disease at 21, and she chose to take destiny into her own hands. She decided to change her relationship with food and embrace a plant-based diet, and her vegan recipes became a huge sensation online.

Williams was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2015, and her doctor suggested she should cut dairy in an attempt to combat the symptoms of her illness. This was just the stepping stone on her plant-based journey, but changing her diet wasn’t easy because she felt isolated in social situations, surrounded by people who didn’t understand her diet.

Williams struggled to find recipes for vegan dishes that she considered appealing and decided to start experimenting in the kitchen and develop her own. Her Instagram page attracted over 100,000 followers after she started sharing her recipes, often inspired by Japanese cuisine.

After years of feeling isolated due to her plant-based lifestyle, she used her platform to help other vegans feel seen and share recipes reminiscent of foods they once used to love.

“I started my blog because I wanted to banish the feelings of overwhelm, frustration, and isolation that come with leading an alternative diet, and wanted to create a community where those people could feel at home,” she explained on her blog.
