Food and travel go hand-in-hand. A country’s food isn’t just a source of energy—it’s an ode to its culture, land, and people. You can better experience exactly what a place has to offer by tasting its food. As travel and food blogger Janine Thomas puts it: when you put food and traveling together, it’s a marriage made in heaven.

The mastermind behind the travel blog with the catchy name Gastrotravelogue, Thomas dedicates her travel to the local dishes and cuisines—eating her way around the world.

Her blog posts and accompanying Instagram photos are very much envy-inducing, with her travels taking her to some exotic destinations such as Zanzibar and Koh Phi Phi island. But when it comes to the actual food, Thomas admits Vietnam is probably one of her favorite destinations.

“There are still French influences to be found like in the classics like Bánh mì, which is a crispy baguette filled with delicious pate, roasted meat and crunchy fresh salad,” she relayed in an interview with Travel Awaits. “Each bite is heavenly. Another favorite is Vietnamese spring rolls, with a lattice-like rice paper wrapper, deep fried to puff up, surrounding a taste explosion inside. Yum!”

Her advice to other travelers? Take your time when you plan a trip. “It makes such a difference when you arrive at an airport and don’t have to dither around trying to get to your destination,” she stresses. “I know so many people who have an argument at that point, and it’s not a great way to start a holiday.”
