When most people think of ramen noodle soup, they imagine those instant versions that you can buy in the store. These are, of course, also the varieties that come with flavored powder that you’re supposed to put in the soup while it’s cooking. These can be pretty delicious, sure, but let’s be real: these powders aren’t particularly healthy. Here’s how to make a more healthy and delicious ramen noodle soup.

Step 1

Instead of buying the ready-made instant ramen noodle packs with the flavored powder, buy the noodles alone with nothing else. Set these aside for now.

Step 2

It’s time to make your soup. Fire up a steaming pot of hot water, and add veggies into the mix such as onions, garlic, and even a chopped carrot or zucchini if you’re feeling it. Add a few tablespoons of soy sauce as well—this will give your ramen soup that classic Asian feel. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Step 3

Allow your soup to simmer for a solid hour as the flavors merge into something new. Finally, when you feel that your soup is ready, add the ramen noodles. They’ll only take about three to four minutes to cook, and afterward, you’re basically done. Enjoy!
