What’s the Secret to Making Jacket Potatoes?

Jacket potatoes, or baked potatoes, are known for being soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. Once the potato is finished cooking, they’re served with fillings and condiments including butter, cheese, sour cream, baked beans, gravy, or ground beef. But how do you get perfect fluffy baked potatoes?

The first tip is to use Russet or King Edward potatoes as their size and flavor are great for baking.

To make them fluffy inside, start by slicing a cross-shape into your potatoes, about 1/4 inch thick. This allows the steam to escape, which helps the potatoes get fluffy inside. If you want really crispy skin, dip a pastry brush in extra virgin olive oil and put it on the potatoes. Then, just season them with salt and pepper.

After you’re done prepping the potatoes, bake them at 400 F for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Then take them out of the oven and slice deeper into the existing cuts. Put them back in the oven for another 10 minutes.

When your potatoes are done, put butter in them and add whatever toppings you desire.

Be prepared for your taste buds to explode, these jacket potatoes are that good!
