One of the new trendy things to drink lately is oat milk. Similar to almond milk and soy milk, oat milk provides an alternative for those who can’t—or simply don’t want to—drink standard milk that comes from a cow. It’s been growing in popularity over the last few years, but only recently has it experienced quite the trend-boom. So what’s all the rage about, and what are the benefits of this drink?
Health Benefits
Nutritionist Jaclyn London spoke about the various health benefits of oat milk in an article for Good Housekeeping, where she said: “Oats are one of the best foods you can eat for a number of reasons. First, as a 100% whole grain, they’re filled with fiber, plant-based protein, B vitamins, and minerals, including iron, calcium, and magnesium.” She also went on to associate oats with the improvement of cholesterol levels, immunity, and gut health.
That being said, just because oats all provide these benefits, oat milk is a different story. Indeed, London also said that it’s too early to say whether or not oat milk can provide quite the same benefits as straight-up oats.
Taste
Health matters aside, oat milk straight up just tastes awesome. If you’re someone who enjoys oats, or oatmeal, or anything oat-related, you’ll enjoy pouring oat milk into your coffee in the morning.
