What are Blended Meats and Burgers?

Are you craving a nice, juicy burger? The term blended burger was first used by The Mushroom Council and the Culinary Institute of America in 2011 to describe burgers made with mushrooms, but since then, home cooks have been using the term to make their own versions which include blended meats. Here’s what to know about them.

What are Blended Meats?

Think of a blended burger as a cross between a beef burger and a veggie burger. They can include any ground meat products like meatballs, taco fillings, and Bolognese sauce, and vegetables. They’re made by blending beef, turkey, or pork with chopped vegetables or grains and then cooking them.

Why Should You Make Them?

They’re perfect for people trying to reduce their meat intake and they’re usually better for you. The texture and taste are similar to burgers but usually less greasy with a slightly richer taste.

How Can You Get One?

Blended meat products are available in supermarkets in the frozen aisle or at butcher shops. You can also make them at home by blending your own meat mixture and replacing it in any dish that has ground beef like burritos, spaghetti and meatballs, or tacos.
