Instant noodles are one of the quickest ways to get a tasty meal. This comfort food takes minutes to prepare and it’s delicious. What more could you ask for?

One of the best parts of instant noodles is that you don’t need to be a kitchen wiz to prepare them. You just need to boil some water, follow the instructions on the package, and you are good to go. However, there is one thing that the package doesn’t tell you, and because of this, we have been making instant noodles the wrong way.

The most common way of making instant noodles is to mix in the noodles and seasoning pack right away, cook for a few minutes, and that is. But according to Arthur Tong, founder of online pantry store Asian Staples, this leads to a very unhealthy meal that contains remains of processing oil and wax coating that extends the shelf life of instant noodles.

Tong, who learned the correct way of cooking instant noodles from his grandmother, recommends that you first boil instant noodles without adding the seasoning pack. Then, you should discard the water and rinse the noodles under a stream of cold water.

After that, boil clean water in a pot and insert the noodles alongside the seasoning pack. Cook for a minute or two before enjoying much tastier and healthier noodles.
