Valerie Libutti’s “Bagel” Dogs are the Perfect Vegan Appetizer

Hot dogs are one of the most popular fast foods on the market, but have you ever tried looking for their vegan alternative? If that’s the case, you’ll be happy to hear that Valerie Libutti came up with a perfect substitute—delicious “bagel” dogs.

The mastermind behind food blog Vegan Travel Eats shared this recipe with her 100,000 Instagram followers and described her “bagel” dogs as “delicious and super easy” to make. If you haven’t embraced the plant-based diet, you can easily replace all the ingredients with their non-vegan alternatives and the final result will be just as delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 1 8 oz package crescent dough
  • 1 12 oz package vegan hot dogs
  • 1 tbs bagel seasoning
  • 3/4 cup vegan cheddar shreds
  • 2 tbs vegan egg

Instructions:

  1. While waiting for the oven to preheat to 375 F, separate the crescent dough into the triangles, and cut them lengthwise to separate each one into two pieces.
  2. Cut vegan hot dogs in half to get smaller pieces.
  3. Sprinkle crescent dough triangles with vegan cheddar before placing a hot dog piece on the wider end of the triangle and rolling it as tightly as possible. Place the rolled “bagel” dog on an ungreased baking sheet, and repeat the process with each crescent roll.
  4. Gently brush the rolls with the vegan egg before sprinkling some bagel seasoning on top.
  5. Bake the crescent rolls in the oven until golden brown, for approximately 15-17 minutes.
