Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last ten years, you’re probably aware of this little green leaf called kale. Classified by many as a superfood, this pesky little devil is arguably one of the healthiest things you can eat today. The question is, why? What’s so healthy about kale, and what exactly is kale anyway?

A Cruciferous Veggie

Regarding what it is, kale is a cruciferous vegetable, not unlike its contemporaries such as cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli. However, it sets itself apart due to its unique blend of powerful nutritious properties.

Vitamins and Minerals

Regarding nutrients that it has, kale is jam-packed with vitamins and minerals, including potassium, magnesium, vitamin K, vitamin C, and vitamin A. It also has plenty of antioxidants to boot, including a powerful one called beta-carotene. It also has plenty of dietary fiber, and this makes it great for aiding digestion, along with improving gut health.

Anti-Inflammatory

In addition to kale’s nutrients, it also has flavonoids which contribute greatly to its anti-inflammatory capabilities. If that’s not enough, kale is also amazing at reducing calories, as well as reducing blood sugar levels. When you consider all this, is it really a surprise that it’s called a superfood?
