When we think of a good cook, we think of someone who creates really tasty dishes, right? But it’s also pretty darn important that the food looks great too. Now, this doesn’t mean that everybody needs to present their food like a gourmet chef. But by following just a few simple tips, your food will start to impress your guests before they’ve even eaten a mouthful.

Reds and Greens Go Together

When you’re cooking, try to think about how the colors work together. Some colors clash and others complement each other. As a rule of thumb, red and green look great on the plate. Add a sprig of coriander with your tomato, or sprinkle parsley over a red lentil soup.

Wipe the Plate Before Serving

When you’re plating the food up, make sure that there are no splashes or smears over the plate. Wipe off any stray sauce before serving and just this simple act will transform the dish’s appearance.

Use Garnishes

Garnishes make food and drinks look much more professional. Simple garnishes range from carrot and cucumber to ginger and lemon rinds. Do some research into how you can make really stylish garnishes. Some of them can be really quite elaborate, and help you get that wow factor!
