There are primarily two kinds of spiralizers available; they include the turning slicer spiralizer and the handheld spiralizer. If you are looking to turn your veggies into spirals, look below for the tips on each option so that you can know which spiralizer will work for you.

Handheld Spiralizer

  1. These are modeled after the pencil sharpener design.
  2. They typically include a food gripper, although sometimes you’ll have to get out most of the vegetables with your hands.
  3. They work best when used to spiral average sized, pencil-shaped vegetables.
  4. They come with a one or two sized blade width, depending on the design.

Turning Slicer or Tabletop Spiralizer

  1. They have suction cups on their bottom to ensure they remain in place on the countertop when in use.
  2. They take up more space.
  3. They come in both high end and economic

What to Consider When it Comes to Spiralizers

As is the case with many items, spiralizers have pros and cons. After using the device, some leftover vegetable may be stuck, and can’t be spiralized. You may end up saving those ends for juice, soup or you can simply chop them and add them to your meal. They can be used for composting as well or you can simply get rid of them if you don’t want to use them at all.
