Quinoa is a versatile dish that is becoming widely popular thanks to its health benefits. Cooking quinoa is also very simple, unless you’re a beginner, in which case you should read a few simple tips that will help you avoid some common mistakes people make when preparing quinoa.

Rinse It

Give quinoa a quick rinse before you start cooking in order to remove the coating that gives it a bitter taste. Don’t skip this step because it will improve the taste of your meal.

Don’t Overcook It

Just like with rice, it’s fairly easy to overcook quinoa if you’re a beginner and it’s one of the most common mistakes. To avoid this, use twice as much water as quinoa and cook it until it has absorbed all the water.

Drain It

Skipping this step will make your quinoa all mushy and watery so make sure to drain it properly just like you do with pasta or rice.

Seasoning Water

Just like you’d never cook pasta in unsalted water, you shouldn’t do that with quinoa either. Don’t forget to add salt before you start cooking, or even better, use vegetable or chicken broth to make the tastiest quinoa ever.
