Making sushi at home can be a bit intimidating but it actually isn’t as hard as you might think. Oh yeah, and the results are totally worth it. You’ve never had fun like throwing a sushi party at home and impressing your friends with your sushi-making abilities. So to help you make it happen, here are some tips for making sushi at home.

Get the Right Equipment

You might have to invest in some tools that you don’t have yet at home to make sushi properly, but it’s worth it. They’re pretty affordable and you’ll hopefully use them many times. You’ll need:

  • A good, sharp knife for the fish
  • A sushi rolling mat
  • Chopsticks

Keep It Moist

Sushi rice is sticky. That’s what keeps it from falling apart. But it can also get a bit messy, sticking to everything and ending up in unexpected places like your hair. So if you want to avoid things getting too sticky, keep a bowl of water around to dip your knife and fingers in.

Don’t Overstuff!

Sure, we all like a good, chunky sushi roll, but the more stuff you put in your sushi, the harder it will be to roll. So, at long as you’re getting used to the proper rolling technique, keep your sushi on the side of less rather than more.
