Food in movies often has a quite strong effect on foodies. It makes them want to try them, but they often can’t since, well, it’s a movie. The best remaining option is to try and recreate it at home, but that usually doesn’t end well if you don’t have the exact recipe.
Cinema & Sandwiches is a YouTube channel that aims to put an end to this problem. Run by Paul Dhillon, who also has a separate channel that “demystifies Indian food,” Cinema & Sandwiches contains videos that are part movie essays and part sandwich recreations and re-imaginations inspired by movie classics.
In each video, Dhillon first breaks down the movie and then gets on making a sandwich that is featured or inspired by a particular movie. He gives detailed recipes and instructions on how to make the sandwich before trying it out himself and giving his opinion.
Still in its early stages, Cinema & Sandwiches currently offers sandwich recipes from four movies. This includes ham & cheese from Tom Cruise’s Top Gun, the sandwich from Christopher Nolan-directed The Inception, a meatball sub from gangster classic The Godfather, and an egg sandwich inspired by legendary director David Fincher.
