There is a special level of frustration reserved for McDonald’s McFlurry machines. Picture the scene—it’s sweltering outside, you can feel sweat dripping down your back, and all you want is a frozen dessert to cool you down.

So, you jump in your car, head to the nearest McD’s, and when the person at the drive-thru window asks what you would like today, you happily order your favorite McFlurry. A few minutes later, you have in your hands a container of sweet vanilla soft-serve swirled with bits of crushed cookies and sweets and life is instantly better.

Well, that’s the dream.

In reality, it’s more likely that you will order the desired McFlurry, only to be told that the machine used to make the dessert (as well as shakes and sundaes) is broken.

The occurrence is so common that a website now exists to tell McFlurry lovers when and where the machines are down!

McBroken.com is the brainchild of a 24-year-old software engineer. It displays every single McDonald’s in the U.S. with either a green or red dot, depending on if the ice cream machine is working.

“I reverse engineered McDonald’s internal API and I’m currently placing an order worth $18,752 every minute at every McDonald’s in the US to figure out which locations have a broken ice cream machine,” Rashiq Zahid explained.

Even McDonald’s is onboard, with the franchise’s VP of U.S. communications and government relations tweeting his support.

So, now the question is—how far would you travel for a McFlurry?
