This NYC Food Blogger Focuses on Harlem Eateries

NYC-based food blogger Dominek Tubbs (aka Dom N’ The City) ascribes to John Mason’s notion that you were born an original—don’t die a copy. Her unique take on food blogging has caught the attention of some thousands of followers. “Food is my language & this is my diary,” reads her Instagram bio.

Known as the go-to guide for eating in NYC, Tubbs puts an emphasis on businesses from marginalized communities, as she seeks out restaurants that set themselves apart by offering unique and review worthy experiences. With special focus on Harlem-based eateries, Tubbs hopes to give back to the Harlem community and highlight Black-owned restaurants.

But with Covid-19 hitting NYC, Tubbs, like other food bloggers, had to stay on her toes and adapt to a new style of blogging. Her website now offers at-home content and recipes, as well as encouraging words and some relevant tips. In a recent blog post, for instance, she drills down on grocery shopping. “When COVID happened, we were limited to the things we could do and places we could go to, and one of those places we could go to was the grocery store,” relays Tubbs. “All these years of strategic grocery shopping finally came in handy.”

“You need to be strategic about your grocery list and have a plan,” explains Tubbs. “I make my list the day before I go grocery shopping to take inventory of what I need, what is low, and what am I making for dinner for the next week or two. Doing this will eliminate extra trips.”

Whether you’re seeking comfort food or comforting words, you should definitely follow her!
