This is Why You Should Grate Your Own Parmesan Cheese

Whether you use it in your pastas, salads, or to crust your potatoes, parmesan cheese is the perfect addition to so many recipes. Parmesan cheese is so versatile, yet most recipes will call for shredded or grated parmesan cheese. If you peruse the cheese aisle at the grocery store, you’ll see a lot of options for pre-grated parmesan cheese. While these options are tempting if you want to prep quickly, there are a few reasons why it’s best to skip them and grate the parmesan cheese yourself.

You’ll Get a Better Flavor

There’s no beating around the bush—fresh parmesan cheese just has a stronger and better flavor. When you grate it yourself, the taste that the parmesan cheese brings to the dish will definitely improve, making your meal taste more professional and delicious.

It’s Better for Your Health

A lot of shelved grated parmesan cheeses (you know, the ones that have more of a powdery consistency) have been found to include fillers mixed with the cheese. That means when you buy these “parmesan cheeses” they actually contain more than just cheese, and not in a good way. It’s better to stick to the block of cheese, where you know exactly what you’re getting!

It Will Last Longer in the Fridge

Pre-grated parmesan cheese will last you maybe a week, at the most. If you get it in block form, it can last you months! Then, you can just grate it whenever you’re ready to use it.
