Smoothies aren’t just a drink—they’re a lifestyle. For many, mornings involve throwing fruit, veggies, and other ingredients into a blender, grabbing their smoothie, and running out the door.
Smoothies are one of the best—and certainly quickest—ways to get your Five-A-Day, turning tasty produce into bright, colorful beverages. They’re super healthy, so why not make them pretty too?
Most of the time, smoothies take on the hue of the strongest leaf or berry in the bunch, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go for a gorgeous rainbow vibe.
Layering your smoothies can make them stunning, but it does involve a little bit of technique to stop the colors from blending together. After all, pink mixed with green makes brown, and who wants to drink something the color of sludge?
First things first, whip up whatever smoothie takes your fancy. Bananas, berries, kale, and mango are all fabulous options (though maybe not all together). Blend your produce with a bit of yogurt, milk, or plant-based alternatives, and throw in some protein powder if you need a kick.
Once you have your different flavors, it’s time to start layering.
Pour a portion of the first into a glass, and then take a spoon and hold it face-down at the top of the glass. Slowly pour the next color over the back of the spoon. Repeat as many times as your heart desires.
Layer away!
