We can all agree that cucumbers are a fantastic veggie. They are perfect for adding crunch to salads, serve great as a refreshing snack during hot summer days, and can be pickled. What more can you ask for?

Well, the obvious answer is that they stay fresh for a bit longer. Most of the time, they get mushy after a few days and are no longer enjoyable, no matter whether you keep them in a fridge or on the counter. Fortunately, there are some simple tricks that can help you keep cucumbers fresh for a lot longer than you thought was possible.

Baking Soda and Water

The easiest way to keep your cucumbers fresh is to place them in a plastic container filled with water and add a pinch of baking soda to it. The water will prevent the cucumbers from drying out, while the baking soda will alkalize the mold on the skin of the veggie.

Paper Towel Wrap

Another great trick is to wash the cucumbers, dry them out, and then wrap them in a paper towel. After that, you should store them in a Ziploc bag. The paper towel will prevent the outside moisture from getting to cucumbers and turning them into mush.
