Cast iron pans are great for so many things, and once you get yours, you won’t be able to imagine your life without them. It’s a versatile tool that can be very useful in every kitchen, but there are still some things you can’t use it for. Let’s dive in while we explain what we mean by that.

Eggs (When It’s New)

A new cast iron pan is not seasoned yet and shouldn’t be used for sticky foods like eggs. Once you’ve used it several times, feel free to try making your favorite egg dish in it.

Smelly Food

It’s very possible that your cast iron pan will make the next few meals smell like that fish, cheese, or garlic you’ve made in it once. If you’re okay with that, then great, but if you’d rather not have this happen, skip similar foods.

Acidic Things

Lemons, tomatoes, and similar acidic foods can easily break down your pan’s seasoning. There’s also a risk of discoloration, but none of this is something you can’t solve by scrubbing it with some baking soda after you’re done.
