When it comes to drinking healthy drinks, which ones usually come to mind? Water, certainly. But what else? Are you someone who absolutely loves to kick back with a tall, cold, glass of orange juice? If so, we certainly don’t blame you. It’s pretty darn delicious, especially when you’re thirsty and craving something sweet. Oh yeah, and the best part: it makes you feel like you’re drinking something healthy. The key words being “feel like”.

The Harsh Truth of Effective Branding

The branding of orange juice is pretty brilliant. It often showcases pictures of beautiful orchards, with a man in a plaid shirt handpicked oranges personally. It makes you feel like you’re drinking freshly squeezed oranges firsthand, even when that’s far from the case.

The nutrition facts are all there for you to see if you should only foray towards the side of the carton. When there, you can see quite plainly that there are plenty of added sugars—but when those facts aren’t promoted, rather just a mere footnote, it’s less effective at influencing your brain. It’s much more convenient to look at that picture of the beautiful and healthy-looking orchard.
