Adding tasty and aromatic spices to food and drinks is an easy way to enhance their flavor and make them more nutritious. Some spices, however, are still extremely expensive for most people and hard to come by. Check out this list of the world’s most valuable spices.

Saffron

Pure saffron is sold by the gram because one kilo of this spice is worth more than 15,000 euros. Saffron is extremely difficult to harvest because each flower has to be picked by hand and that’s why this is the most expensive spice.

Vanilla

In 2018, one kilo of vanilla was worth more than 600 euros, which was more expensive than silver at the time. Vanilla is extremely difficult to grow and it’s the second most expensive spice in the world.

Cardamom

Another spice that needs to be harvested by hand and is therefore very expensive is cardamom. Even though it’s not nearly as expensive as vanilla or saffron, the price of cardamom is still far above the average, but it’s definitely worth the money.

Mahlab

Mahlab is an aromatic spice that’s very rare and hard to come by. It can cost around 100 euros per kilo, which means it’s one of the most valuable spices in the world.
