The Key to Making a Perfect Salad isn’t What You Think

A lot of people when they think of a perfect salad think it’s always about one thing: the salad dressing. In reality, the thing that makes a perfect salad isn’t what you dress it with, it’s the contents of the salad in one specific way. A salad really doesn’t need much more dressing than some olive oil and citrus juice to make everything sing. What you want out of a salad is a variety of textures to keep yourself and your tastebuds interested.

Something a salad can really lack is a variety of textures. Some people will accomplish this by adding croutons, which is great, but not really the healthiest of options. Instead, think about using nuts and seeds to provide the crunch factor while keeping it super healthy still. You can even do things like chunks of green apple, pomegranate seeds, blueberries or blackberries, all that provide an extra punch of flavor along with a crunch.

Also, another way to vary a salad is to use a combination of raw and cooked ingredients. For example, throw in some roasted beets, grilled zucchini or anything like that so you have a deeper flavor that is totally different than your lettuce or other raw vegetables.
