There’s nothing quite like a cup or cone of ice cream on a hot summer’s day. But when you take it out of your freezer have you ever noticed the crunchy bits of ice at the top of the container? Sure, we’ll still eat the ice cream, but this freezer burnt part of the ice cream isn’t all that tasty. There are actually ways to prevent these ice bits from forming and here are some tips to help prevent your ice cream from getting freezer burnt.

Ice Cream’s Surroundings

Keep in mind that dairy products absorb the smells on the other foods around them, so if you’re storing fish or other foods with strong odors in the freezer, don’t keep them away from your ice cream.

Store Ice Cream Upside Down

This sounds a bit odd, but to prevent freezer burn, store your ice cream upside down. Make sure the lid is on tight before storing your ice cream in the freezer upside down.

Cover Ice Cream With Parchment Paper

As soon as ice cream comes in contact with air, the surface refreezes which causes ice particles form. To slow down this process, place a piece of parchment paper on the surface of the ice cream to make a new seal.
