When we think of grilling, typically meats and vegetables come to mind, not cheese. Sure, there are grilled cheese sandwiches, but we’re talking about cheese you prepare on the outdoor grill. Grilled cheeses are a great option for vegetarians at barbecues and they’re a delicious alternative to red meat. So, what cheeses are best for grilling?

Halloumi

Halloumi has a high melting point which makes it work well for grilling. Once it’s heated, it gets softer, making it great for grilling or frying. This cheese holds up well to skewering, so it’s the perfect addition to vegetable skewers.

Feta

Feta is another cheese that holds up well on the grill as long as you keep it in the block and don’t cut it. Grilled feta tastes great in salads or with crackers and bread.

Paneer

Paneer is a similar texture to halloumi, making it a good choice for the grill. After it’s grilled, it’s a nice addition to vegetable dishes and salads.

Brie

Next time you make a cheese platter, instead of adding just regular brie, add grilled brie. You’ll want to grill the whole wheel and pay careful attention to it so it doesn’t burn.
