Planning a road trip? Whether you’re driving across the country, or just heading an hour up the road, there is something about being in the car which calls for some quality snacks. No one wants to munch on stale chips or eat a melted candy bar when they’ve got a drive to do. Plan ahead and make one (or all) of these easy road trip snacks so you know you’ve got something good to eat.

Cheesy Tortilla Stacks

Buy some corn tortillas from the shop (you can make them at home, but you will need an iron skillet and a tortilla press). Warm the cooked tortillas in an iron skillet with some butter, then grate over some cheese and add a few sliced gherkins. As the cheese melts, pop another tortilla on top. Let it cook for another minute, then remove from the heat. Slice in half, wrap in aluminum foil, and have a delicious, easy-eat tortilla stack waiting for you in the car.

Vegetable Wraps

Sometimes sitting for hours in a car can make you crave fresh, healthy food. You don’t have your hands free to dig into a salad, so why not wrap some sliced carrot, fresh leaves, diced peppers, and cucumber up in a flour wrap? Add a dash of seasoning, and you’ve got another easy-to-eat, healthy snack that’s ready to go.

Dark Chocolate Nuts

Car food needs to be in small, easy-to-eat portions, so these nuts are perfect. In the microwave, melt 1 cup of dark chocolate. Put 2 cups of mixed nuts in a separate bowl. Once the chocolate is melted, stir 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of melted butter into the mix, then pour this over the nuts. Stir to coat the nuts thoroughly, then pop them in the fridge for 2 to 3 hours, so that the chocolate sets. Store them in a greaseproof bag, so that they don’t make a mess of your car seats.
