If you’re anything like us, you live for the nifty hacks found on TikTok.

How to get rid of that funky smell in the washing machine? The easiest way to tie your hair in a top knot? Yes, please, we’re here for it!

One of the most recent hacks doing the rounds teaches TikTok users how to store avocados in the fridge to keep ‘em fresh for longer.

The fruit is notorious for switching from green to brown in the blink of an eye, and if they weren’t so damn delicious, we wouldn’t even bother with them.

According to the TikTok tip which has been viewed millions of times, cut avocados can be kept for a month by storing them in water in the fridge. But before you break out your mason jar, the FDA would like to have a word…

“The FDA does not recommend this practice,” the agency has stated. “The main concern is with the possibility that any residual human pathogens (ie. Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella spp, etc.) that may be residing on the avocado surface may potentially multiply during the storage when submerged in water.”

Sounds like a good excuse to eat up those avocados quicker.
